http://florida.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=936707 1. 12.5 ppg & 6.5 rpg F Alex Tyus (OSU offer, Thad chose Turner) is transferring. 2. 17.2 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 6.4 ast PG Nick Calathes has not withdrawn his name from the draft yet. 3. 4-star big man Deshawn Painter has decommitted from UF. Tyus had to play C last year due to a lack of personnel, IIRC. Not trying to kick you while you're down, Gators, trying to give a little perspective here. |

Great find by 86.
Thought it was interesting that Matta thought that Conley would be a three-year player until about a month away from the end of the season and then he realized that Mike would probably be gone. Also interesting to hear that Kosta had some conversations with agents during the season. Matta did not say that he was fully focused on the season because he had one foot in and one foot out. NBA executives say that the one year of college rule gives them more time to evaluate talent before they invest their money in a player. If they are so worried about making a wrong investment, maybe they should let the kids stay in college for 2-3 years and that would give them a lot more time to evaluate players. |

There's an element of greed in action here. We're talking about millions of potential dollars being dangled in front of kids and their handlers. That's a lot of temptation to ignore or not be corrupted by. The only answer is an agreement with the NBA on number of years a kid must stay in school. It's a win, win for the NBA and the kids. The NBA gets players more mature and the kids see the possibilities of what a college education can be. And of course colleges will benefit also.
