No one's measured up to the Trojans in the last 20 games, and it may be that no one does again next year, what with Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush, LenDale White, Dwayne Jarrett, et al. returning. What you may not realize, though, is that at least in terms of returning players, Fresno may be the toughest foe on USC's schedule.

No disrespect to Cal, Arizona State, UCLA or Oregon, but it's quite possible the Bulldogs will enter the fall ranked higher than any of them. Hill's team returns 17 starters from a squad that went 9-3 and finished 22nd in the AP poll, ending the year on a six-game winning streak and beating No. 18 Virginia 37-34 in overtime at the MPC Computers Bowl.

But your right, no real surprise there. It looks like they maybe a shoe-in to return to the BCS Title game, unfortunately.

USC is reminding me of Miami and Florida State in the 90s.

No real threats in their conference so, with their highly regarded rep, it comes down to a one-game season for the mythical NC.

The worst thing ever to happen to scUM and tOSU - as it pertains to the playoff-less "national championship" - is to be the last game on each other's schedule. Seriously, how many NC shots have we cost each other over the years, whilst good teams from weak conferences play the system for a title?

This is reason #312 for a playoff...that will never happen in my lifetime.

Sorry - but I try never to miss an opportunity to espouse my anti-playoff rhetoric.

It is the OSU-Michigan games that make college football great. That one would suggest somehow lessening the importance of that game in the interest of chasing mythical or real NCs is the very core of the argument against NCs. It is not only possible for more than one team to have a successful season each year - it is good.

Enjoy your life and let the next generation suffer as they watch the Eagles and Patriots of CFB each go 0-2 while resting their stars in anticipation of a three game season.

wow........ well im not sure exactly how it works but ill bet you all of my v-cash that USC is in the national title game next season. just make it there.

talk about home-field advantage though, if USC does play someone like tOSU in the NC game. Pasadena, Cali?

Though its a real long shot for next year, ND could be a hard host to what has traditionally been a great contest. With Weiss in charge and a fired-up South Bend faithful crowd. Who knows -- could be USC's late season high noon.
