OSU Track & Football Stars

Has anyone else here wondered or pondered the idea that Ginn, Oneal, Lenix and one more person could actually go on to challenge for the 4x100 NCAA title? I don't think it's too far of a stretch considering their accomplishments prior to now while at Glenville.

Now that all three are officially Buckeyes, does anyone think that it's realistic that the three team up again (+1 obviously) and take on the country's best? This would be great to see in my opinion and would only help the players and eventually make for an even more disgusting display of speed on the field. Any thoughts?

I have no use for the man, but Russ Rogers (OSU track coach and the US Olympic team coach who couldn't get his sprinters to their prelims on time in Rome) can turn out sprinters. However 4X100 teams take time to develop... it is no where near as simple as it looks and fast as those guys are they may not stand up to NCAA track levels. Also, Ginn ran hurdles and 200 in the state meet which seems to suggest that there were some guys faster in the 100 in the state. I'll check out the results at the OHSAA site and get back to you.

Cinci.....wasn't it Ginn, O'Neal, Lenix & some Stephon/Stephen character who won the U.S. high school championships in the 4x100? I could swear those guys beat that tough Texas team by the slightest.

They could be golden though...I believe the 2nd and 3rd place positions taken in the 100m at state this year were Lenix and O'Neal repspectively.

Stephon Fuqua would be the other guy.

I can't seem to remember exactly how it went, but I believe they didn't win the 4*100. I do know, however, that they did win the 4*200m and I believe they won the sprint medley as well. Can't find the links, so I'm not sure if that was the combination of guys or not.

as fast as those guys are, i'm sure OSU has designated sprinters in the program from around the country that they probably wouldn't beat out for the job, except maybe Ginn of course

I dunno Mistri, 2nd and 3rd in the state is pretty impressive considering Ohio is the 7th most populous state. Though you make a valid point...I'm wondering if by the time they are juniors and seniors any set of youngsters (strictly recruited for track) could step up and replace 3 track all stars such as Lenix, ONeal and Ginn as seasoned vets.

I believe Micheal Jenkins was on the 4x100 team. It seemed hard to believe he ran a 4.38 at the NFL camps, but he did it twice in a row and is a strider. That being said, a true 4.38 would be hard not to utilize on the track.

yeah that 4.38 or whatever it was at the combine is just blazing, too bad he didn't have enough opportunity to show off that speed on the field, always being underthrown on long balls and catching hitches and outs, almost never hit in stride.......that's why everyone was so surprised when he posted those times

and i'm just guessing btw cornerback, i know NOTHING about the OSU track program, and how their guys would stack up to the #2 and #3 finishers in Ohio's state 100m..........i just assume they recruit atleast regionally, if not nationally for the best of the best.........although the glenville guys could atleast hold their own i'm sure.........and it's probably not far fetched that they could earn a spot somewhere on the team

I missed last year's state meet, but when I looked at the results I suddenly had a new appreciation for the kind of speed Ginn, O'Neal, Lexis and Fuqua have.

The state record for the 110s still belongs to Dayton Dunbar/OSU great Chris Nelloms at 13.30. When Chris ran that he set a state and national HS record. So then I look at the 110 prelims and Ginn ran a 13.26! (!!!) Unfortunately it was wind aided which means it will not stand as a state record. That means Ginn ran a faster time than Nelloms at the state meet and that is indeed, special speed.

Glenville had so much speed that the coach did not bother to run Ginn in the 100 and the 4X100, saving him for the 200 and the 110 . Lexix and O'Neal finished 1 -2 in the 100 at 10.68 and 10.69... that's a step off of Mario Allmon's (Cincinnati area Princeton HS) record of 10.48, but more than respectable.

I saw Nelloms and Allmon in the 90 state meet. Nelloms set three state marks that day (110s, 200 and 400 - 45.49!!) and Allmon set the 100 mark. Some poor kid from Elyria had the misfortune of running 2nd in 100 to Allmon, second in the 200 to Nelloms and second in the 400 to Nelloms. Any other year and Robert Smith would have won the state track meet by himself.

Their (Glennville) 4X100 team ran a 41.59

Not to be too picky, but O'Neal and Lenix were 1-2 in the prelims. They did not go 1-2 in the finals, but instead were 3rd and 5th. They got beat by one of our freshmen... Go Malone!

But, yes. They're still blazin'

osu

in the national track meet, glenville A team won or took 2nd in 3 of the relays but, to top that off Glenvilles B team finished 2nd or 3rd in 2 of the relays.

Now thats nuts. 2 relay teams from the same high school do that against the best from the whole country.

The results were in the usa today sports page during the summer

Well here are some answers to your questions
Here is the Penn Relays Sight, which is the best Track event in the country some would say, where glenville came in 4th in the 4X100, and 7th in the 4X400, in 2004
http://www.pennathletics.com/SportSe...0&ATCLID=50201

And here is the link for the "Nike" Outdoor nationals, formerly known as the addidas outdoor nationals

http://nikeoutdoor.nationalscholasti...s/2004male.pdf

So these will show you what those guys can do against some of the best in the country. And don't forget to look at the 400 meter hurdles section to see another tOSU signee who is also pretty quick.

Good dig porter...nice to see Ray Small on there as well. Between the A&B teams, by next year, we could have four of those kids.

porter= great find. lennix has true speed and him playing safety with speed like that will be an honor to watch. I'm happy he's a buckeye

not to bad, two relay teams from the same school do that good.

Ginn, sr is doing a fantastic job in cleveland. Giving kids a great chance to make something out of there life.
