I-AA games
Just read Fiutak's column on CFN, and it's got me thinking about all of these lame OOC matchups that get scheduled. I'm starting to think that the NCAA should restrict the number of I-AA schools you're allowed to schedule over a 5 year period or something, or even ban the practice entirely (unless you have offered the schedule slot to multiple I-A schools).
It's a shame when there are some potentially great games out there that never get played because the ADs are sissies. |

I think that Auburn got the message while they were sitting around watching USC and Oklahoma play for the championship.

You folks remember Texas Tech, right? Y'all didn't treat them very well during your MNC year.
They scheduled 2 1AA teams for their OOC slate this season. The other game is against Florida Atlantic, a team that will be moving from 1AA to 1A this year. This is embarrassing for the conference. I understand their (and other teams scheduling AA opponents) motivation, but I really hate the practice. Kansas State did it for years, and I'm pretty sure your fellow Big 10 school, Minnesota, does it regularly as well. At the very least, they could at least schedule 1A bottom feeders like UL-Lafayette (like UT did). There's plenty of those to go around. To top it off, teams that schedule these games will have to put up with trash talk about it for years. Deservedly so. |

Yeah, I went back through Fiu's article and saw the WKU game. He didn't mention that they turned down WSU. WTF??? I mean, a win over the Cougs launched us on a national title bid, so maybe you all are good luck.
Just playin'. It really is a shame when schools who WANT a D1A game have to take whatever they can get because the "big boys" won't schedule them. That's part of why I think the NCAA needs to take some action and make a rule. |

Auburn also turned down Fresno State, which offered to come to Auburn and didn't require a return visit to Fresno.

Auburn's Fresno State attitude.....
....its humorous to read on Auburn's board about how Fresno State is so much beneath them, the WAC is so inferior to the SEC......and on and on. So they would rather play Western Kentucky? It seems plain that many Tiger fans are afraid that, no matter how small the chance might be, that Fresno might just trip them up. Therefore its much better to go with the heavyweight 1AA opponent and then boast how tough the SEC is! Its just bull[censored]! or better yet tiger[censored]! Not two balls amongst them! (AU fans that is)
Go Cougs! |

Thomps, the one thing I do respect about USC is that they do what they can to get their non-conference schedule to make up for their weak conference slate.
haha Just messing with you, but you guys are willing to travel also. Auburn is just pulling bush-league Kansas State crap. It will be a cold, cold day in hell before you see the "war eagle" agreeing to a reciprocal series that would bring them to the 'Shoe, for example. Ah, the arse kicking that would be. I guess we'll just have to settle for playing that one out in NCAA 2005. SEC = Scheduling Every Cupcake |

Auburn could've beaten Ohio State, Miami, and Michigan in non-conference play, and it wouldn't have mattered. There's no way in hell the voters would've bumped their top 2 preseason teams, OU and USC. As long as OU and USC won their games, no one was going to pass them in the minds of the all-knowing pollsters. Quote:

Playing Texas will be fun to watch, but one of us is pretty much kissing their NC hopes goodbye in September. |

Playing a I-AA team isn't all that bad... I'd rather see Ohio State take on Youngstown State than to have to watch us play Duke for instance....
