Datish has obviously played more center at the college level than has Cordle, and knows the schemes far better.

I am starting to agree with Mili here.
Regardless of the coaches opinion of him, he has no experience at the college level.
If he can get some quality minutes in behind Datish, he will make an awesome center in '07

Cordle may even progress to the point he's seriously pushing Datish for the starting job by the end of the season, but that'll only be after a lot more practice and game experience. On thing's for sure, we won't be wondering who our next center will be after Datish graduates...

Why is it so hard to bump Cordle over to Guard?
The blocking assignments and techniques between Center and Guard aren't too different, right?

I think in the long run it's better to groom Cordle as a center. He was being looked at as Mangold's replacement last year...that's how good he fits in for the position. However, since Cordle was hurt he never got groomed, and since Datish has experience at center it makes more sense to kill two birds with one stone (have a more-experienced center snapping the ball and getting Cordle trained to take over when Datish is gone and lock down the position for 2-3 years).

Honestly I think it is going to come down to whether they will move Barton or Rehring inside to man one of the guard positions opposite Downing or if someone like Person or Mitchum can man the guard position. If so Datish will play center. If not they would play Cordle at center and put Datish at the guard, with Boone/Barton/Rehring manning the tackle.
