Defending OSU
I'm borrowing from a recent thread regarding Ginn, plus a perennial thread regarding how easy it has been for teams to defend OSU's offense by simply putting 8 guys in the box and waiting for the anemic running attack.
Now that Ginn is "in" and OSU's QB's can seemingly find him, how dare anyone put 8 guys in the box? Slant to Ginn and it's 6. Comments? (other than I've taken over for dumbass post of the week?) |

Teams double covering, triple covering, or spying on Ginn will be easily beaten by Holmes and Gonzales. Our offense just has too many weapons for an opposing team to gameplan for one player.

Why would you put 8 men in the box against a team that can't run? We haven't been a good running team for two years!
I would beg for 8 in the box right now! Holmes, Gonzales and Ginn in one on one situations???? Fuggid abowdit!! |

I know that it is not a widely-held opinion on BP but I think we will have a running game this year. They won't put 8 in the box to stop it but it won't be what it has been the last two years either. I am very optimistic especially about Haw.

I am optimistic about our running game due to the simple fact that it could not possibly get worse.

Yeah but teams still put 8 in the box last year

Obviously, with a truly improved OL and two more fast backs available (and one of them having good size), our running game should be more than satisfactory. |

If OSU used our personel right over the last few years noone could've put 8 in the box on us. OSU should abuse people with Holmes more this year. Ginn has become the #1 priority and the guy who defenses will focus on. Holmes one on one is always a mismatch in our favor. Gonzo is a great #3. He's a speed guy who can worry safeties deep. If I'm an opponent this year I'm definately playing two deep safeties and making OSU prove they can run well enough to win the game. We haven't proven we can do that since Clarett.

similar to what dragon just said....
one philosophy is "use the pass to set up the run"......well....i think tosu and the shot-ginn formation is "using speed to set up the run." it's a small difference..... |

Now, I don't have time to look this up (damn finals all next week), so I was wondering if some of the other guys could do a little research.
With the Ginn-Holmes-Gonzo tri-fecta, we can consider our receiving corp one of the best in CFB. Who is notably better, or can atleast compare? Also, who has a secondary that can come close to cointaining or receivers? Or to narrow the list even further, who is capable of shutting down our receivers? Doesn't matter if we don't play them next year, just to make comparisons. |
