Of all the things you said... the last thing i"m going to do is run plays short of your best threat. Ginn.. can.. and has been documented... to have the ability to take it to the house on any given play.... so you don;t want to run a play short of him because you keep the defenders assigned to him in the play. Given 1:30 and 80 yds... I actually do this. First, they know Ginn Moght hurt them... so they are going to give him cushion...even with 2 or 3 guys... so I start with an out route to him... even if its only for 8 or 12 yds.... at that point... its about perpetuation of the myth... reinforce their worst fear.... make them make you use your best guy to beat them... if you catch my drift... Then what I do... is maybe do it again. If I have a couple Timeouts... I try to hit him on a seam route....probably don't even need to complete it at this point... just need to strike the fear of god in them again.... After that... I run TG on an out route... while I hit Santonio on a post. Now... the thing is with Santonio is that he's gonna get deep because I just showed them Ted twice and they aren;t going to blitz anymore after that...... so now I'm probably at their 30ish with about a minute to go. NOW... I run my screen play and let Haw's (or whoever's) athleticism take the game over... whiel I run TG to the post... or corner... because now I'm in range to score..) Then.. I'm somewhere around the 10 with 40ish second and maybe 2nd down (I may hve had to spike it to stop the clock if I'm out of T.O's) but at that point there's a bunch of options... Anyway... thats the optimistic view of the situation... but real decoys create space.. and when you have space.. you don't run screens... either clear the safeties deep... or collpse them and get behind them. |

And if Smith is playing, you can bank on scUM STILL not learning their lesson on how to contain a mobile QB (I don't see them getting speedy linebackers in one year). So if all else fails, Smith breaks out for a huge gain, if not a TD a la Vince Young.

put ginn in at QB, hail mary formation, run on every play. if they blitz they will probly blitz everybody so just lob it up. maybe run an option in there with gonzo at the HB slot.
or do you mean real life? ![]() Last edited by BuckeyeNation27; 03-11-2005 at 01:59 AM. |

I said run the screen play because if you are down the field Michigan likes to blitz, especially when they need a big play. If it is not there you throw it at Haw's feet and go to the next play. I will take one from Corso here from NCAA 2005 "The best way to beat the blitz is to run screens and draws." If they blitz like they like to do and Ginn and Holmes run the corners and safeties off it could be daylight. |

Somebody has been playing too much NCAA Football 2005 (or whatever it's called).

I'd have Smith as QB, Trip recievers to the left, Holmes, Ginn, and Gonzo. Haw in the backfield. Hamby lines up on the right side of the line.
Ginn goes in motion to the right. Ginn runs deep post, Gonzo with a 7 yard curl route. Holmes runs the out and up (the same play Gamble got beat on vs Wisconsin). Hamby slant through the middle of the field. Haw runs out into the right flat as a saftey valve. Tell Smith to make something happen. ![]() |

And to Mili, I do play it quite a bit, but that is what happens everytime you put pressure on the QB. |

If their in base 4-3 then they are probably also in cover 2 deep. One safety is more than likely going to roll to Ginn. I start in Trips left formation, Hamby at tight right, just like someone posted before. I then send Ginn in motion right . The motion is going to accomplish two things-
First it is going to widen out the LB to the TE side unless he's blitzing. It's also going to give Ginn a running start at his route. Second it is going to show our QB (I'll take Zwick) what coverage the DB's are playing. I'm then going to run Ginn on a deep out 12-15 yards, if he's open you can hit him and get out of bounds. If the safety comes over the top to help Hamby should be open at about 10 yards down the seam. Next on the twins side. Gonzo is going to run a deep post route to put pressure on the other safety. Behind the deep post Santonio runs a go route or even a stop and go. All of this is going on simultaneously so Zwick needs to get his reads pre-snap. After the snap I play-action to Haw or Pittman to freeze the LB'ers for the only split second my WR's will need. Granted this play will work best if we've had a productive day running the ball up to this point. I like this scenario even if they play nickel, in which case Hamby will be more attractive or even running with Haw a couple of times. IF protection holds up, routes are run correctly and your QB makes good decisions, this play would be unstoppable with our offensive talent. Oh, did I mention we are going no-huddle. ![]() Last edited by Bestbuck36; 03-12-2005 at 02:05 AM. Reason: Added info. |
