Point is Kurt made more plays at safety than even A Russ! Kurt just needs some more weight in the seat of his pants. He's a play maker!

Like the Ozone article said both our safties have to go hang onto the ball.... How many did we drop last year (mainly russel)? I bet we dropped atleast 2-3 a game.
I like Kurt, but I'd like to see him playing at around 200 for a playing weight. He looked pretty tiny out there, but for a first year starter I thought he did better than Anderson.

oh and by the way, if you wanna see kurt playing at 200lbs i dunnnooo. i see him multiple times a week on campus and he's probably about 5'*". 200lbs is def. doable, but that's like bob sanders size if you think about it. (a size he didn't grow to until he was in the nfl, err, at least it seems like he added some bulk after his time at iowa)

The thing about Kurt and our DB's having a case of the dropsies this year is that Kurt has EXCELLENT hands. He was an interception machine last spring, played WR in high school, and could play WR for OSU if we ever get in a pinch. The kid is a playmaker at safety. Despite his good play this past year, I don't think he's yet blossomed. I have a feeling he'll have his "coming out" year this fall.
And with all do respect to JamO, he's fighting with Chekwa and Amos for the nickleback spot, and Kurt's got a pretty serious edge on JamO right now as far as starting safety. Do you have some inside info mdoss, or is your only insight about JamO how he played against Wiscy with their best WR injured on the sideline?

no, i don't have any inside info.. just a student at osu. my posts are based on pure observations. i don't think the problem w. the dropped picks is kurt's issue.. i think that's more anderson russell than anybody. to clear up all the confusion i guess, i've had serious issues with the safety play for a few years now. safety is a very key spot on the defensive side of the ball, with great safeties you can do a bunch of different things with your defense. now i do NOT have any problems with kurt's effort or desire.. i'm simply stating that if the game has slowed down a great deal to jamario o'neal (like i've heard from a few different sources, on multiple boards), then i think he should be given a chance at a safety spot. jamario o'neal is an incredible athlete with blazing speed. he seemingly loves to come up and take peoples heads off (something no other safety on our roster can do). i would like a safety that can come up and fill the run w. authority, not someone who is going to stop their feet, drop their head, or try to arm tackle the ball carrier like i saw all season from BOTH our safeties on a semi-regular basis.. don't get me wrong, there were times where kurt came up w. some authority, or a-russ would make a good play in the backfield, but i saw just as much of the opposite as well. jamario o'neal did come up and attack the ball carrier in the spot duty that i saw him in this past season. and i don't care who's in at receiver, we play zone in the secondary most of the time now, zone is not hard, at all.
edit:
the lower end safety play the past few seasons has been due to poor recruiting of the position lately, IMO. i'm excited to see what ohrien johnson will be able to do in his time at ohio state, he seemingly has some size and athleticism. boy do i wish we coulda landed the major wright/will hill package.

Position change??
Coleman is a great athlete , he's at his best when the ball is in the air. Maybe move Coleman over to FS and let O'neal and Gant battle for the SS safety position.
