Wayne (5-1) vs. Fairmont (1-5)

When: 7:30 p.m. today

Where: Chester Roush Stadium, Kettering

Radio: INFO-AM (1610), WOXR-FM (97.7)

2004 result: Fairmont, 36-30

Outlook: Wayne has Centerville (6-0) and Northmont (5-1) back-to-back in Weeks 8 and 9. But before that, Wayne coach Jay Minton wants his team's focus on the Firebirds, a team that beat the Warriors last season. Wayne's focus will be on stopping Cameron Campeau and making sure no one else gets rolling offensively. The Warriors have been rolling it up on offense lately, averaging 45 points in their last four games. QB Alex Earley has found a good groove in hitting WRs Billy Viers and Dan Snyder. All-around back Joe Gilford is a two-way threat, as is Earley. Donnie Evege also will catch and run as well as playing DB. The Firebirds haven't recaptured that '04 magic but would love to play spoiler. Campeau (1,166 all-purpose yards) will finish with another statistically solid year. He'd rather have more wins, but the rest of the offense hasn't materialized as planned. Plus, the normally solid Firebirds' defense has allowed 31 points per in the last five games.

Wayne (6-1) vs. Centerville (7-0)

When: 7:30 p.m. today

Where: Heidkamp Stadium, Huber Heights

Radio: WONE-AM (980), WCWT-FM (101.5), WOXR-FM (97.7)

2004 result: Centerville, 35-27

Outlook: Yes, the game will be in Heidkamp. After contemplating a move to bigger Welcome Stadium, Wayne's fans sought to keep the home-field advantage. Big computer points are on the line. A win over Centerville (or at Northmont in Week 9 plus a win over Sidney in any case) could mean a return to the playoffs. The game with the Elks also likely will decide the GWOC East champion. Centerville has the league's best defense (191 yards and 8-point average). The Warriors have the best offense (419 yards and 36-point average). After sitting out last week's win at Fairmont with a shoulder injury, Wayne QB Alex Earley is planning to play. He leads an offense that moves the ball passing (to Billy Viers, Joe Gilford, Dan Snyder and others) and running (Earley, Gilford, Donnie Evege and others). The Elks have dominated defensively and typically use the triple option, field position and special teams to control teams. Last year, the Elks scored four TDs against Wayne after getting the ball deep in the Warriors' territory. Ben Hemenway and Dan Drake have shared the QB spot lately while Jason Combs and James Cravens have picked up tough yards inside. The Elks are in good position to host a D-I, Region 4 playoff spot. After winning at Northmont, a victory at Wayne would solidify the Elks as the area's best team. There's a chance all three teams could make the playoffs and fans may be treated to another matchup involving these teams. Wayne coach Jay Minton is 4-3 against Centerville, winning four straight before the Elks' victory last season. Centerville coach Ron Ullery, who has been on the Elks' staff since the mid-1970s, is 1-4 as a head coach against Wayne

Evege has offers from Purdue and Miami(OH). He wants to play RB at the next level. Names no leader or favorites. Holds a 3.7 GPA.

5-11 185 lbs and runs under a 4.4...those are the kind of numbers that make for a great back.

While he has decent measurables for a RB, I think he will end up at CB. He is the definition of a shutdown corner. Evege is fast and I mean fast(probably legit 4.3 now, I saw him run a 4.45 his freshman year at OSU camp), so he can gamble and if he gets beat he can make up ground quick. I think he is the second best corner behind Gamble in Ohio(if Gamble plays corner). Haven't got to see the corner from Benedictine though. Still I think he is a strong candidate for an OSU offer.

By Dave Berk of BearcatInsider...Donnie and his father caught practice at OSU over the weekend and they spoke with JT. Jt indicated that OSU will be pursuing Donnie in a big way next year, and that an official offer was already on the way.

Looks like Donnie and Devon Torrence could be some of the earliest Buckeye commits in next year's class...

Agreed. Jay Minton has always been pro-tOSU, even from his days in FL. If one of his boys gets an offer, he'll almost surely be a Buckeye. I think tOSU is recruiting Donnie as a DB, right?

I am thinking he may be offered on junior day and if not I think he is offered shortly after. If offered, Donnie will be a Buckeye if nothing has changed.

Wow didn't know that. Well then I say it is pretty safe to pencil in Evege as part of the 07' class then. I definetly wouldn't doubt the offer. OSU and Evege have been in close contact for quite some time. I am pretty sure he will be a DB here.
