DB Rocco Pentello (official thread)
Rocco Pentello
Westerville (OH)
South
Height: 6-foot-0
Weight: 190 pounds
40-yard dash: 4.45 seconds
GPA: 3.5
Audibles: "He has real quick feet. He's fast too. As a college player he'll probably be a safety." -coach Rocky Pentello
$ Rivals $
Pentello has been offered by Toledo already. He probably projects as a safety on the next level. His coach and father says that Pentello will be a Buckeye as they are big Tressel fans. Rocco has interest in other schools but the family does not.

This kid is a FAST duel-threat QB that has been starting since his freshman season. If the kid was any taller, he could be considered a top 100 player and would DEFINETLY be playing QB at the next level.
Not surprised at the Toledo offer, considering UT just graduated WSHS alum WR Lance Moore, currently have WSHS alums WR Steven Odom and WR Nick Moore, and recently just signed to-be WSHS alum WR Robin Bailey. Westerville South is to Toledo as Cleveland Glenville is to Ohio State.

He probably does project as a safety if his dad is adamant that he can only go to OSU and that Rocco is not allowed to go to any other school that offers him as a QB. Strange, considering he will get offers based on finishing his career with well over 10,000 yards passing!

Hilliard Davidson has their number but Pentello is a good QB. They'd have been regional champs this year if they hadn't run into the Cats. They beat Kilbourne during the season I believe. South has a really good program.

South went unbeaten during the regular season 2 years ago (one of a handful of D-1 teams to do so), and got beat in the first round by Davidson. They're typically amazing during the year, and choke during the playoffs. 1st round and out the past 2 seasons, with both losses coming to Davidson. About 8 years ago or so, South finished runner up in D-1, losing in the championship game. They've had some great people come through that program: Ki-Jana Carter, Andy Katzenmoyer, ? Mitchell (former OSU DB), Brandon Joe... they're a solid program.
South though, is without a doubt a pass-first team since WR Lance Moore and QB Rocky Pentello (a relation of Rocco) put up astronomical passing numbers the 2000-2001 season. Most recently, they've been producing some nice receivers that have flown under the radar, and Toledo's done a great job jumping on them. I know they had 2 WR's that were 6'4" or taller this past year, and UT grabbed the better of the 2 of them. South's receivers have been a perfect fit for Bruce Gradkowski and Toledo's spread offense.
Haven't seen Rocco at the safety position yet, but I'll take coach daddy's word on it.

hey well, i go to westerville south and played freshmen football this year and watched him at each home game.
hes got some skill, and he's very fast.
as a matter of fact, heh, he was our gym class flag football QB ... Hes accurate, throws hard, and is pretty scramble happy. Again, on the field he looks a lot shorter than 6 foot and im not sure how much taller he'll get.
anyway, just me up close, knowing the guy kinda deal. I also am proud to say i beat him one on one in archery... not that that matters but o well
cya around bucks
