Lightbulb Academics: "one of the best in the country"
I believe this deserves a thread right here.
These views need to be expressed so that tOSU gets the respect they deserve as one of The top academic instituitions in the country.

* Offensive lineman Andrew Moses is the mystery man of the incoming OSU players. Moses will walk on at OSU as a center/long snapper.
"I got a lot of offers in the MAC and I got an academic scholarship at Ohio State. It (attending OSU) just seemed like the right thing to do," said Moses.
Moses is an honors student and will participate in the honors program at Ohio State. That distinction has already earned him a nickname with his new teammates.
"My new nickname is 'Honors,'" he said.
"I play center or guard, I long snap as well. It just seemed like there was a lot of opportunity in all three places in a couple of years, and obviously long-snapping is a need, Coach Tressel has talked about that, and the guy who is doing that are doing a good job, but I wanted to see how I could do."
"I've done it (long snapped) in state championships in the mud and everything else. My brother long snapped as well," he said.
Moses isn't just bright. He's also big and athletic.
"I'm 6-4, about 265, almost 270. My 40 time is just under 5.0.
I got a couple of letters and went to their camp over the summer. I really like their school. They've got a really good honors program and Ohio State is one of the best schools in Ohio. Their honors program and their political science program is one of the best in the country. With school and football, it just seemed like the best fit for me.

I guess you did not think that it deserved its own thread.

Oh, well.

In another edition of our player interviews, Preferred Walk-on Lineman Andrew Moses talks about high school, coming to Ohio State, and his role on the team this year.

At Bishop Watterson was there a specific game or period of games that really stood out as your best overall? What was your most memorable moment?
'I really enjoyed my high school football experience at Bishop Watterson. Probably the best game statistically I had in my career was the first round of the playoffs my senior year. I had 3 sacks, 2 other tackles for loss and an interception- haha yes an interception by a defensive end- and our offense line dominated running for over 300 yards as we won 38-10. The most memorable moment in my time at Watterson was winning the State Championship in 2002, my sophomore year. It was extra special due to the fact my brother Chris, who was a hell of a football player himself and Captain of that team, started at Center and I started at Tackle so it was pretty special to accomplish that with a brother who is my best friend. Also, beating our archrival Columbus DeSales 6 times in a row was quite awesome.'

Which colleges recruited you out of High School and which colleges did you visit before deciding? What led you to decided to attend Ohio State?
'I was recruited by Ohio State, Northwestern, Toledo, Ohio University, Harvard, Cincinnati and Elon. Although my opportunity to attend Ohio State would start off as a preferred walk-on, I was particularly drawn to OSU because of their Honors Program in which I qualified for and received a partial scholarship for. My goal was to get the best academic and athletic opportunity possible for me, and for me, being in the Honors program and wearing the Scarlet and Gray was a great fit.'

Have you always been a fan of the Buckeyes?
'I have always been an OSU fan since I have been a kid.'

What has been your experience as a Buckeye so far and what is your outlook for the team this year?
'My experience so far has been good and I think we got a real shot of doing big things this year. As long as we take care of our business the rest of the year,
I think we will end up in Pasadena but that’s easier said than done. We have good leadership and hopefully that will pay off this weekend up at Penn State.'

What has been your role on the team this season?
'I have been on the scout team with many other of our freshman class playing center and guard.'

i never thought of looking him up here in the old recruiting database... he went to school with me 8th grade thru junior year.. an incredibly smart and nice guy, played baseball up at NCS(for the younger locals) with me until we started travel ball... very nice guy.

What have you done in the off-season to prepare for this year?
?As it has been well documented, our new Strength and Fitness Coach Eric Lichter and Speed Coach Butch Reynolds instituted a new workout program this summer that would help us to be the best football players possible. They both, along with Assistant Strength Coaches Joe Rudolph, Jay Hooten and Andrew Winkler, have really helped the entire team become much stronger and faster players.?

The offense looks ready for a repeat performance in 2006; do you see the team having a similar finish and national ranking?
?I don't think any of us are concerned about how we finish the season statistically or ranking wise in the sense that, we are trying to focus on things one week at a time. Right now Penn State is all we are concerned about. If we get better each day as a unit and individually, then our goals of being Outright Ben Ten Champions and National Champions are possible.?

You red-shirted your freshman year? If so, was the year a good growing experience and where you were able to improve your skills on the scout team?
?I definitely think being on scout team has helped me become a better football player. Going against a great defense like we have every day and putting in great effort have helped me make great strides.?

Chris Moses, middle, has vicariously experienced being a Buckeye through his brother, Andrew. Their father, Charley, is pictured at left.

They frolicked together on a snow-covered field in Massillon, two brothers celebrating endings and beginnings. It was December 2002, and Andrew and Chris Moses had just helped Watterson win the Division III state championship. Both started on the offensive line during a fairy-tale season for the Eagles, who started 2-3 before rallying to win it all.
It was the end of their childhood together. Andrew was a sophomore and Chris, a senior, would soon leave for college.
On that bitterly cold evening, though, neither one knew it also marked a beginning of a role reversal, a painful process that would end with older brother Chris looking up to younger brother Andrew.
