A process that began with initial offers more than seven months ago finally came to an end for Andrew Moses last week, as Bishop Watterson High School's standout lineman finally made his decision where to attend college and play football.

An all-state center who was a three-year starter and an integral part of the Eagles' 2002 Division III title team, Moses said over the weekend that he has told coaches at Ohio State University that he plans to be a Buckeye starting in the fall.

"I wanted really specific things," said Moses, who at various times was considering Northwestern, Toledo and Harvard. "And (OSU) was the place for me."

The 6-foot-4, 265-pound lineman was a mainstay of both Eagles lines from '02 to '04, helping lead the team to a 32-10 record and two state tournament appearances.

Moses will be a so-called preferred walk-on at Ohio State, hoping to join the team when it opens camp in August. Though he will not be on athletic scholarship, Moses said he has every intention of playing at Ohio Stadium.

"I'm not going there just to wear a uniform," he said. "In about three or four years I think there is a very good chance for me to play. I wouldn't be going there if I didn't think I had a chance to play."

More important than football though, is the fact that Moses has earned a partial academic scholarship and has been accepted into Ohio State's honors college. He intends to study Political Science, a program that's among the most well-respected at the university.

"I was lucky to be able to be choosy with where I wanted to play and I wanted to be where I would be happy even if football didn't work out."

Though he could be considered slightly undersized for a program like Ohio State's, Moses mentioned that most high school football players have to add size and strength when they reach the college level.

Watterson head coach Dan Bjelac, who has worked with him his entire high school career, has no doubts that Moses can succeed at college football's highest level.

"The competition is obviously very good when you get to the Big Ten," Bjelac said. "But I think he can play."

Bjelac said Moses is an intelligent football player, something that will benefit him as he battles for a spot on the roster.

"He's also very diverse, which gives him options along the offensive line. But the biggest thing is that he has a very good intensity about him."

Moses said his decision to attend OSU was made after a recent meeting with head coach Jim Tressel.

"He was very open and honest with me," Moses said of the conversation. "Coach Tressel told me some things I wanted to hear.

"Sometimes it's hard to find exactly what you are looking for. I think I've gotten what I wanted. I'm really happy with it."

I certainly don't mean to pidgeon-hole him, butan undersized, walk-on center sounds like a perfect candidate to be the next Kyle Andrews.

6'4" 265 out of HS isn't undersized. 2 or 3 years in the weightroom will get him up near 300 lbs. We had a center come in at 6'2" 220 and turn into a 6'2" 270 lb all MAC center.

My brother was on the team that won the state championship in '02, so I have watched this kid play for years.
While undersized, he is still a monster.
When he puts on some weight, he will be force, I guarantee it.

Actually, I really like the Moses pickup. I don't know how, or if, he was ranked nationally, but we need depth at the OG and OC positions.

I'd rather the kid come in and add speed and strength rather than weight. If his ideal position is center then 265 is heavy enough. I don't know much about him but like Exhawg said 6'4" 265 is not undersized. Let's see what some strength and conditioning can do for him. We already have our monsters to dominate the Tackles and Guards, lets keep a Mangold-sized, intelligent, hard-nosed, intense guy at center. Those credentials remind me of LeCharles Bentley. He worked out pretty good I'd say.

You do have a point with that. Andrews wan't huge, but he was easily the best longsnapper I've ever seen. He never missed. Its hard to have an accurate long snap if you have maneuver around a typical O-line gut.

You're right. I should never call a kid who has 90 pounds on me 'undersized.' I guess I was comparing him to the size of most of the OL guys we bring in. Boone does that to people.

I was the ideal size for most college OT's (6'5" 300), but Boone would make me look small. Next to Sims and Mangold Moses would fit right in. I actually bet that's about the same size Mangold was when he came in.
They say the closer you are to the ball at the snap the smarter you have to be so that means the center has to be the smartest player on the field. I consider myself pretty smart and I would have hated to have all the responsibilities of a center. I had a hard enough time remembering the snap count and reading what I was supposed to do without giving the calls to tell everyone else what to do.

You wanna talk about undersized... Kyle Andrews was undersized (he was 6'1", if I remember correctly). If it wasn't for that, he stood a great chance at getting drafted in the 7th round.

After Magold and Winner graduate this year, Moses could be 2nd string behind starter Jimmy Cordle, unless they move a scholarship player over to be the back-up. The Buckeyes are ALWAYS looking for good long snappers though. Wouldn't be Tressel Ball without one.

Moses is looking at being the long snapper on the squad. He was offered by Toledo but sees an opportunity at Ohio State.

There is a difference between Walk-on and Preferred Walk-on...

is it possible that he will walk on and than earn an athletic scholorship later on in his career or does that violate the academic scholorship that he received?
