I love how the guy blatantly ignores one of the best DL's OSU has ever had, if not the best.
As for the concept of the D being more aggressive, despite his ignorance to some X's and O's might there be some truth to that concept?

Who knows...Heacock will have his own identity, but expect Beckman to have a big say also.
It will all depend on the D-Line...

coming from a db coach i believe grad21....
i also would ask the author.....on what are you basing your opinion of what the heacock defense will be like this fall??? were you at spring practices? do you realize there were only a couple of practices after snyder left for marshall? do you know why heacock was named DC? Do you know why Beckman was brought in?

Alan-
From what I've read (in articles about his hiring and talking about his background) it seems like Beckman was brought in to stop the spread, so I think he's right there. All your questions are quite valid though; from reading his page it seems like he a)left out the personnel when talking about each year's defense, and b)has some kind of inside knowledge concerning the defensive strategies (unless he's just guessing).
You can't talk about sacks and such stats without attributing some of that to the incredible lines we had in '02 and '03. Then again, against scUM and Okie St. that '04 defense looked rock solid, so it's not so easy as just saying one style works and one doesn't. We need our defense to fit our personnel and our oppenent, and I have plenty of faith in the staff to do just that.
