Here's the letter I sent:
Regarding your episode on "Officiating Disgraces," I, and several Ohio State Buckeye fans, disgree completely with your #6 choice. The play in question, in which a pass interference call was made after the play was over, was in fact the correct call. Your show completely neglected the actual moment in which the call was made. The pass interference call was not made during the jump ball (the clip that was repeatedly shown), but during the actual route running. There are several clips of this on the internet, and the clearest one is shown here: http://buckeyeplanet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11900 *NOTE: please log in as default, password: default As you can see through these clips, the pass interference call was made due to the completely obvious holding on Chris Gamble. If anything, the fact that the Miami DBs were allowed to hold our receivers ALL GAME without being caught was the true officiating disgrace. I frequently watch the Sports List, and I am extremely dissapointed with the lack of research that your team has done. Especially because it challenges a hard earned national title winning season. It is extremely disrespectful to the players and fans of Ohio State to call into question the validity of their win. If you are going to make such an extreme (and biased) claim on national television, I think it's very important that you get all of your facts right. I hope you will watch the clips shown on that website shown above and make a referendum or even apology on your show. Thank you. |

That call is popular mythology among the masses, and will never go away.
The fact is, it happened on 4th down, "everyone" expected Miami to win, and the crap that went on with MoC the following 2 years just gave "everyone" the fuel they needed to keep the lie alive. The List is just another manifestation of the bull[censored]. Get used to it, or be prepared to be [censored]ed off over and over again. A decade from now, the story will be like "as Miami boarded their charter to fly home after the game, NCAA officials seized the trophy and awarded it to Ohio State...", as all fish stories grow over time. [censored] 'em, we won the game. Let 'em bitch. |

In fact, the whole thing is [censored]ing wrong. Porter said after the game that he was playing it over in his head to determine whether he should call pass interference or holding. Either [censored]ing way. But don't let that fact get in the way of a bunch of washed up or never-has-been talking heads spouting [censored] on national TV... ![]() Last edited by JCOSU86; 05-31-2005 at 10:09 AM. |

My favorite thing to do with miami fans who bitch about this is tell them that if they are going to go back and question that one call, they need to question every call. which includes the holding on gamble, the fact that he caught the ball, the block in the back on the punt return, and the combination of those three which wouldve meant no OT.

Of course, it goes without saying, that if a similar call had been made against us, we would be the ones crying just like the Miami fans.

If you are the defending national champions, and you've won 33 games in a row, and you can't punch it in from the 2 yard line on 4 consecutive plays, I really don't think there is an argument on whether or not you deserve to win a national championship.
