I hate to post again on this commitment, but I am just so impressed with Shaq and the way he went about earning this offer. After reading the article, I hope it doesn't go unnoticed to other kids out there that may be facing similar problems to what Shaq had, and yet he overcame the weight problem. It just goes to show that life will hand you opportunities, and what you make of them determines how far you can and will go in your future.

Congratulations Shaq, not just on earning and accepting your Buckeye offer, but on conquering one of many obstacles that you will undoubtedly face. With an attitude like what I see here, you can do anything! Way to go bud. So impressed.

Just when I started to lose faith in my boy...great news! As of late it looked like he wasn't going to be a part of this and then bam, he's a Buckeye. I always thought he would get the offer if he got the grades and weight...I really think the "effort problem" was just Shawntel being out of shape and needing to lose weight. I've spoken with Shawntel twice and he is really a good guy and he has worked his tail off to get the offer he wanted. He wanted it bad, the staff wanted him too, and now he's in! The future looks bright at DL with Rowell, Goebel, Mobley, Williams, etc.

I can, the number of top LB's this team has is getting out of control. Yet the DL is also very strong. Nice problem to have.

It's actually really good in the end. It opens up the tweener position, sort of like Carpenter. Get an athletic 260 guy who can play with his hand on the ground or in open space. Hale is a great example of that.

IMO Tress and company wouldn't offer a guy unless they though he could contribute at some point, and we definitely need a big clog the middle type of DT. I see Rowell as a big DT who can command double teams every play and keep the other team's OL off our linebackers.

He might not be a pass rushing type of DT but we could certainly use a big, physical presence in the middle of our defense. I see Rowell as an "immovable object" type of DT and I don't think we have a guy like that on our roster right now, great pickup IMHO.
