Glenville's Rowell chooses OSU

Shawntel Rowell was going to wait until national signing day on Feb. 6 to tell the world where he was going to play college football, but Glenville's 6-4, 305-pound two-way lineman got tired of being dogged by friends and family.
So Rowell gave his oral commitment to Ohio State on Monday, less than 24 hours after returning from an official visit to Illinois. He visited the Buckeyes two weekends ago.
"Ohio State offered me a while back," said the 6-4, 305-pound two-way lineman. "Ohio State was my first choice from the beginning, but I wanted to experience the recruiting process."

Rowell, rated the 18th-best senior in last month's issue of Ohio High Magazine, registered 22 tackles at defensive tackle, including five for loss, and two sacks for the Tarblooders. He had a blocking efficiency of 95 percent and eight pancake blocks at offensive guard.
He'll play defensive tackle for the Buckeyes.
"I like playing defense because I feel that's where I play the best," said Rowell, who is undecided about what he'll major in. "I had a good visit at Illinois, but I feel Ohio State is right for me. I'm from Ohio, so that's where I belong."
Rowell also likes the idea of being just two hours away from home.
"All the people who were asking me where I was going to play in college will now be able to come down to Columbus and watch me play," he said. "I want to show the younger players coming up, and not just the ones at Glenville, that if you live in Ohio, there's no other place to play than OSU."

I love this pickup...I do believe he is the sleeper of the class...

I posted back in the thread aways that I thought that if we can develop his work ethic and effort we might be seeing a first round draft pick with Shaq someday...

Man I would just love to be a practice to see some of these battles between our oline and dline...

My nod for sleeper in the class goes to Nathan Williams, but anyways..


Shawntel... congrats bud!! You can't help but root for a kid who knew what he wanted and worked his a-- off for it. Great job meeting the "weight" goal and keeping your grades up!!
