It's this simple:

Any poll that does not have USC as the unanimous #1 right now is a joke.

Any poll that has - a team on a two-game losing streak, looking to replace (by far) its best offensive player, coached by Three Loss LLLoyd - in its top-5 is a joke.

For some reason, I've never bought into Tech as more than a good show. Ever since we absolutely overmatched them in the shoe a couple years ago, their offense has seemed like more of a paper tiger to me. Their bowl game was pretty impressive, however, and they may very well prove that I have some misconceptions about them.

I LOVE A&M this year. To me, they feel like last year's Va Tech team. I just feel like McNeal is ready to ascend to superstar status and the schools tradition and the 12th man add a little mystique to them. Every year I get preseason "feelings" about teams. This year, I get the strongest positive feelings about A&M, Arizona State and Alabama.

LSU will be hard to figure this year. I never bought into Saban as much as some others. I think he has always been built to be a pro coach and Miles feels like more of a college guy. My problem is that Les thinks himself out of games sometimes by trying to stay ahead of the competition. He gets into these ruts where he tries to control too much through strategy instead of letting his talent take over (ex: Passing too much early against tOSU). I completely agree that a new system and staff will make it hard for LSU to live up to their potential, but they have a two-deep completely full of NFL guys and I think that the lack of time to implement Miles' system to it's fullest will allow the players to work with just the basics and to use more of their talent.

I'm with you, in that I keep wanting to downgrade LSU because of a new staff...but whenever I put them head to head with other teams (except USC), I can't find anyone that I feel comfortable would beat the Tigers 2 out of 3.

USC is an obvious #1

I feel all the following have legitimate arguments for #2: Texas, Tennessee, Va Tech, Miami, LSU, Ohio State, Iowa. The greatest part is...if history stays true to form, there will likely be a team we haven't mentioned playing for the title.

...I'm so stoked for the season

Believe it or not I hope you are right, I would like to see the big 12 be a legit powerhouse again, that is not possible until atm and nebraska regain prominance. I understand your paper tiger feelings about tech but what you might not realize is how tough of a place lubbock is for atm to play. It is a bitter rivalry that has gotten the better of atm 6 straight times. it takes the right kind of athletes to stop tech and right now atm's largest weakness is their secondary. Jaxson Appel is your star? come on, I know that he can tackle well but he has no speed and no help. Tech is a loss for the aggies this year. Reggie is already a great qb but he lost the best wr in atm history in terrence murphy. atm could be 7-0 and lose their final three games at lubbock, against ou, and against texas. One thing is for sure though, they will be over hyped after they demolish texas state, smu, and whatever other sister for the poor team they play to start the season.

I can almost guarantee the 2 #1 votes came from 2 of the following coaches:

Tressel (does he have a vote)?
Bob Stoops
Dennis Franchione
Mike Leach

I don't think anyone really thinks UT is better than USC. It's just politics.

EH: I don't think Tressel plays politics with his vote (if he indeed has one). Us beating a two-#1-votes Texas team wouldn't really mean more than beating a one-#1-vote or no-#1-votes Texas team.

The pre-season polls are somewhat of a joke but they give us something to talk about. The only reason I can see Michigan being ranked that high is they have Henne and Hart back as Sophs. They always get love by the media and those 2 are supposedly heisman candidates. I hardly think so with Braylon gone. You still have to pay attention to the SOLID FACTS. Michigan always loses to at least one team they shouldn't. That will absolutely happen again this year. Michigan will lose 1-2 in the B10. They have no secondary and they are coached by Loyd. As for Oklahoma, why! They have like 4 returning starters on D and a new QB minus their stud receivers. AP will be getting stacked in the box. As for OSU, we could start off NR and end up in the top 2-3 if we win out.
