O-line practice methods
I remember a thread last year (or possibly 2003) that questioned Bollmans training technics with the O-line because sleds weren't used. I want to say an ex OSU fullback from the 70s (name escaping me) contributed to the thread saying it was a mistake not to use sleds in practice becuase it taught the o-line to push together as a unit.
anyway... point is there are practice photos on o-zone that show the O-line pushing a sled together. Is this something new? Is Peterson taking a more active role with O-line development?

its not secret that we havent done squat running the football the last couple years. i wouldnt be surprised if they are doing alot of different drills than from a year ago.

This is actually a result of the stricter oversight of NCAA rules enforcement. That is Troy Smith's new ride they are pushing. |

That was none other than Pete Johnson
I think Peterson took a more active role as the year progressed last season, and it was paying huge dividends.

that would make a lot of sense, by the end of the year we alot better running the ball than earlier in the year, obviously.

When Peterson became more heavily involved, the offensive line became more potent. Technique is more critical than pushing sleds in my opinion.

thats true, look at the broncos, they are one of the smallest lines in the NFL, they all are sound when it comes to technique. its all about execution.

Wow talk about techique, have any of u seen the size of the shoulder pads of offensive lineman (very small) in the NFL and college game. There is almost no room for any kind of technique. And the way line officials in both college and pro are watching these kids, you can bet that someone is gonna get a whistle every other play. The rules are becoming more and more tighter in the performance of how you can block your opponent.
I guess thats why sled/blocking is not as important as it was back in the earlier days of football. Tackles are now ranging from 310 to 330 lbs and at 6'7" to 6'9". I think Petersen & Bolleman have thier hands full in coming up with a good offensive line to have a sucessfull season every year from now on. Good Luck Gentleman.

we definantly have a great offensive line forming, in a couple years they will be dominant.
