? The meaning or the reason behind THE in tOSU....
anyone have FACTS or links that describe the reason it is EMPHASIZED and/or when it started.
I've heard numerous things... a lawsuit....state differentiation....etc

the in front of a vowel should be pronounced THEE
the in front of a consonant should be pronounced THUH

I heard that an English teacher at Ohio State decided that it was proper English, so it might not be universally accepted as "proper"... just what I heard. I don't know nearly enough about language to have an opinion about it.
Either way, it sets The Ohio State University apart.

I have heard that one of the issues is that OSU used to be referred to as Ohio by many people (look at old video footage where the scoreboard says Ohio at the Show), OU did not like this and threatened to sue, but that the suit never happened because OSU chose a new logo in the 80s that emphasized the The
I believe that the new logo is the real reason though...the old one was ugly text that just said OSU, it was very dated looking
