Based on JT's history, OSU will never have a high powered offense
Take it for what its worth, but I pulled some numbers from CFB warehouse and came up with following stats.<O </O
<O </O
Prior to this year, JT was a head football coach for 18 seasons. 14 at YSU, 4 at OSU.<O
<O </O
His overall record was 175-68-2 (.714) with 4 I-AA national titles and 1 I-A title. Impressive totals, no doubt.<O </O
<O </O
However, if you take the scores from all the games he has coached, you arrive at the following:<O
<O </O
Average points scored : 25.72<O </O
Average points against : 17.94<O </O
Average margin of victory : 7.78<O </O
<O
Obviously its over an 18 year span, which included several sub .500 seasons. So like i said, FWIW.<O
<O
JT coaches games based on strong D, special teams, and mistake free offenses. We will rarely blow anyone out, and competitive teams will usually play us close. It's never pretty and definitely not good for the heart, but that's the way it is and the way it will always be with JT at the helm.

What was the scoring average and average margin of victory in the years when his teams won national championships at YSU?
We know what 2002 was like, but when you think about how teams do in the down years factored in with the good years, the averages didn't look too bad.

I like mistake free offense, who doesn't?
Still doesn't mean you cant score 40+ points a few times a season, especially against a SDSU.
Which, we haven't done in regulation (we had over 40 in 3OT's vs NCST) since 2002, against Kent State.

Tressel likes ball control and defense, I don't think our offense is anymore wide open than in the past, we just line up as a spread offense.

Lord knows we have the fire power...we just need Colin Powell to give us the strategy.
That's it, hire Colin Powell as our OC!

For the sake of accuracy, in 2002, Ohio State beat Indiana 45-17 and San Jose State 50-7 after the aforementioned Kent State triumph (51-17).
Let's not forget that the Bucks also scored 37 against Michigan and 33 against Oklahoma State to conclude last season; yeah, it's not 40, but those are impressive totals against good teams, in a rivalry game and bowl game, repectively.

As has been said many times, you don't HAVE to be bad offensively to be a defense/special teams oriented team.
