Current and Future Schedules

I noticed something on the schedule for this year and in future seasons. This year, we had Texas at home and scUM on the road. Next year, it will be Texas on the road and scUM at home. In 2008, we have USC on the road and scUM at home, then vice versa in 2009. Any thoughts on why we scheduled our two toughest games of the year opposite of one another? Meaning, wouldn't it be beneficial to schedule both at home in each year and both on the road the following year to give us the best chance at the coveted undefeated regular season? Michigan is set in stone, so why didn't we go to Texas this year and to USC in 2009? The Miami series in 2010 and 2011 are the only ones that coincide with our Michigan series. IMHO, I think we kind of shoot ourselves in the foot by scheduling in this manner. Now, I do understand we may be at the mercy of the other schools, so I guess my question could lie in the amount of effort put forth to make this work in this way. USC's schedule is always powder-puff teams, so God knows they shouldn't have been opposed. Texas is "at home" (Dallas) every year with Oklahomos, so it probably didn't matter to them. I guess the bright side is if we do go undefeated in one of these years, no one can say we didn't earn it.

I see your point, but even if it was matched up we lost to Texas at home and we can't go undefeated.

Also when scheduling that far down the road you don't know which year is going to be the better team, so you don't konw that even know you could have say USC home and scUM home but that be a rebuilding year, and the next year it be at both places and you could be screwed b/c you have two tough road games.

Exactly crazybuck- After all who is to say that by the time the Washington & Syracuse games come around that they will not have righted their ships.

One thing that is intriguing to me is that we are adding what are colloquially known as perennial contenders or power-houses to the schedule. All in all I agree with what Mr. I says -- if we run the table against a schedule like those inked for 2006 - 2008 no-one should doubt the SOS. This all becomes even more deep and difficult if and when a 12th game becomes a standard feature.

<HR> Introduction to Metaphysics of Yin & Yang

The idea of opposites (Yin Yang, the union and harmony of opposites) has existed in both Eastern and Western philosophy since ancient times. Of the Ancient Greek Philosophers, Heraclitus and Parmenides both understood that the Universe was One and Dynamic. Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel appears to subscribe to this philosophy and has applied it to their scheduling of opponents.

I love it...it means there is a HUGE home game every year!!! And...lets say we had an amazing team one year...and had to go to USC and to scUM. That would suck...but one at home and one on the road wouldn't be so bad. Also...if we have the best team in the country, we should beat anybody, anywhere, anytime. And also...scUM sucks...Tressel owns LLLoyd Carr's nuts, and LLLoyd won't be seeing the W side of THE game EVER again while he's at scUM...so who cares where we play them. GO BUCKS!
