OHSAA Computer Playoff Rankings

actually that is not better, the Ohsaa.org site is better because it is official, those rankings may be better looking and faster to get, but they aren't the official one's, so they don't mean squat, but nice site none the less

Actually joeeitel.com is probably better then the OHSAA site. Although OHSAA has official computer points, Eitel gives team inevitable points. I guess you can say he's a little ahead of the game. An example would be Team A beat Team B and Team C already. If Team B and Team C play each other in the future its inevitable your going to get secondary points from one of them, because one of the teams has to win. Eitel just gives Team A secondary points because the points are going to come regardless. Eitel's computer points have always been correct at the end of the year every time he has done it, so I would say they are pretty official too. Eitel also figures in playoff status. If a team controls his own destiny he makes a mark of that. He also tells in the last couple weeks which teams are locks for the playoffs and which teams are mathematically eliminated. It's a great site, that guy works his ass off just so other people can get that information.

ok but i wish i knew what he said about last years rankings and if Beechcroft would make the playoffs(before the last game of the year), and i want to see if he can find out what has to happen(besides us win out) for us to stay in the playoffs at number 8 or higher

When I played ball, they only took the top four teams in the region. We finished sixth my junior year and the season after I graduated, they switched to eight teams per region. Our school had never been to the playoffs before but then went about eight straight seasons.

Some of the funny things I've seen regarding teams making the playoffs:
Our league had a couple teams right on the DI/DII border as far as enrollment goes and another team that was DIV. One of the teams was barely DI, just by a couple students and they finished the season 9-1 and didn't make the playoffs. The DIV team that year went 4-6 and made the playoffs.

The first year my school made the playoffs, there was controversy over their opponent. The rankings came out and an opponent was named. The next day, it was determined that one school in the region had been using an ineligible player. Because those games had to be forfeited, a team that had only won two games, now won three games. The team that was in the #9 slot had beaten that team and they picked up enough computer points by this team now having three wins as opposed to two, that they were able to move up to #8. Definitely one of the wierdest things I'd ever seen or heard in regards to the Ohio playoffs.

yes exactly, for instance my school Katy High was one of the smaller 5A schools. In our district were Elsik and Hastings, two of the largest schools in the state. If either of those two made the playoffs then Katy was automaticly in D2.

I have a hard time believing this. I would be more than willing to bet that there is a much larger amount of high schools in Texas than Ohio. That is not to say that you would even want to use the texas format, just that it would work. The only way that it wouldn't work is if you were trying to decide 1 state champion. Something like the Indiana state basketball champion where all sizes of schools compete in the same playoffs. Then i could understand the rankings.

he wasnt saying ohio has more high schools, just alot of school districts. here in georgia the districts are divided by county, so its macon county school district. in ohio, its a city thing, so, there are alot more districts, even if there arent as many actuall high schools.

ok this is a stupid conversation, ohio has a reputation for having great high school football, i was just suprised to find out that they use rankings to determine the playoff field.

It's not ranking in the traditional sense. It is computer oriented. Points are awarded for performance, not opinions.

Thats fine, still sounds like part of the BCS to me. Your going to have a hard time convincing me that settling it on the field is not the best way
