Look, I'll agree that penn state has one of the best defenses the buckeyes have seen in a this season ... and last season too. They brought back pretty much everybody from a defense that was good last year. BUT it seems clear to me judging from what I've heard from the players and the coaches not only last week, but all season long, that the expectations are drastically higher than what has been achieved. Where is the disconnect? Are the coaches placing too high expectations on the players? I don't think so. The potential is there. Something is keeping our bucks from achieving what they want to achieve ... and I think part of that is that is when these objectives aren't being met week in and week out they start to lose some of their meaning. more bluntly, the offense may be getting used to sucking.

I am in total agreement with 21 and LV on this. If there is one glaring thing to me after watching the game again (it was still painful the 2nd time) is that our Oline does not play nearly consistent enough. There are times when they look really sharp, and agressive, then there are time when you see them zone blocking and getting killed. I am not sure if some plays require them to zone block and some to drive block, but it is clear that they do not deploy the same scheme throughout the game. I know that assignments chnage, but usually not schemes correct at least not in the HS I played at or college I played at.
What has happend to Peasron and Mitchum and Skinner. I have heard nothing of these kids, are they considered bust, hurt, developing or what?

Well we have more depth this year and most guys take at least till their sophmore year to crack the two deep. Keep in mind Downing didnt start playing until midway through last year and He is one of our top lineman. I would rather have our lineman redshirt and get a year or two under their belts b4 they are thrown into live action unless they are that good. See Boone, Mangold, Rehring. Sims was basically forced too his freshmen year(not a knock, but I believe there were a couple injuries).<!-- / message -->

Yeah, Sims played alot because of Ivan Douglas' unfortunate struggles with the blood clot that forced him to retire.
What year did we move Mangold in and Stepanovich over to guard (due in part to Bishop struggling)? I was thinking 2003, but Mangold got an inordinate amount of time for a backup C in the title year. Was there ineffectiveness and injuries that year as well?

No there was times when we had an overabalanced line and we brought an extra lineman in. That is when Mangold would go to center. It was more Mangold's sophmore year when Step moved over to guard b/c of the ankle and Mangold became the everydown center.

i still say that troy smith single handidly messed up the game for us. i mean im not sayin that everyone played perfect but his INT that lead to the touchdown was the game right there. sure, he did make some plays and did decent at times but then him fumbling the ball at the end is bull[censored]. if you cant see a [censored]in 300 pound defensive end comin at you with any kind of peripheral vision then he has even worse vision problems than i thought.
he needs to learn to read more than 1 guy on each route before tryin to squeeze out a 2 yard scramble. atleast with zwick, the ball gets evenly distributed and anyone can hand the ball off to pittman.
oh yeah and if my opinion offends all of you so much im so sorry but i thought this was supposed to be a forum with different views being discussed in it.

You can't be serious. One single player can not lose a game. We could also say that Ryan Hamby lost the Texas game, but that is stupid.
When one guy makes a mistake the other guys pick him up. It is a team sport and there isnt an I in team.

You've got to be kidding. Peripheral Vision my ass. Watch the Game again Troy Smith is clearly looking to the left side/middle of the field and got hit from his right side. Thats called your blindside. I don't know any QB who can see his blind side with peripheral vision. Its not TS fault that the DE was unblocked either.
