Intangibles:
I remember during the 2002 season, after the Illinois OT game, Tressel said something that stood out. In his post game interview he said during the overtime period, he was walking the sideline and noticed Ben Hartsock and Shane Olivea (at least think it was him) joking around. He knew at that moment they would win this game. The team was loose. They weren't concerned. They were confident and enjoying the game. The situation, the pressure, the feel of a season on the brink of disaster was virtually non-existant.
Compare that to look on the faces of our guys during Saturday night's game at State College. The team was down and depressed. Emotionally drained and showing signs of being broken.
Where is the leadership?
Everyone says "this is Troy's team". That's great. But where is the emotional leader. Who is going to step up and be the guy that keeps their heads in the game, emotions in check, eyes on the prize?
If Troy truly is the leader of this team, He needs to be active on the sidelines, getting in the grills of "his team" and keeping them fired up, and keeping them loose.
TJ Downing's "Let's Go Mo Fo's" moment gave me hope that someone on that offense hasn't given up on the season. I hope Downing's attitude is infectious.
