You here this every year this freshman or that freshmen is going to start. It never happens, the transition is usally too much. They just don"t have the physical tools as a freshmen. The speed alone at the Big Ten level is usally to much to overcome.
Too bad you slept through the 2002 season...

I dont think he will start as a freshman unless nobody at RT this year steps up. I wouldnt be suprised to see him rotate in like Simms and Mangold in 2002.

Please watch Boone's videos before saying that he doesn't have the physical tools to start right away - he does, and will. Pace started right away, and Stringer started mid-way through his freshman year; IIRC, even Alan Kline started as a freshman.
In general, however, I do agree with you that freshmen do not start at major programs, and that recruits who buy into that crap from coaches ("yeah, kid, you sign with us and you'll start from day one") are most often deluding themselves.

I watched Boone play last year and I saw Pace play his senior year in hs. After watching Boone last year I couldn't help but think of Pace. Boone obviously has the size but what amazed me so much was the footwork he exhibited as a junior. LBJ is right on with his assessment. If anyone has the chance to catch a St. Ed's game this fall, going to just watch Boone is worth the prcie of admission.

I think Boone could be one of those once every 5 year guys-Big Kat,Pace,Clarret-to step right up and play like a star. Pretty much everything I have read has him pegged as the #1 OL in the nation, and said he would have been last year as well. The great thing about him is that he has almost perfect size 6'8 300-no excess weight to lose, but big enough to not have to worry about being pushed around. Barring injury, Mr. Boone will be a very rich man in about 4 years............

-Pickett in 1998, starts by 4th game of season against Penn State.
-Bailey in 1997, starts last 4 games of season.
-Boston and Katzenmoyer in 1996, Boston starts from the Indiana game onward and Katzenmoyer from game 1.
-Pace in 1994, starts from game 1.

And I'm sure there are some other recent names I've forgotten.

Ohio State versus M*ch*g*n trumps everything. It trumps your record. It trumps whether it's dangerous or you don't have a chance or any of those kinds of things. It trumps all things because it's the Ohio State-M*ch*g*n game. And I would like to think our guys understand that, but there's only one demonstration of understanding that and that's at 12:00 noon on Saturday.
