that is truly a great post
The fact that these two haven't been good in the same year since before some people were born (not mentioning names) has made people forget that it was not a drop-off in the quality of the teams that killed this game. It was the splitting of the Big 12 into divisions and the attending title game.
People used to debate which was the bigger rivalry, Oklahoma-Nebraska or OSU-meatchicken. That hasn't been MENTIONED much less debated in a long time.
Those of you who think that a title game wouldn't be able to kill something as special as The Rivalry should consider that people in Oklahoma and Nebraska thought the same thing not so long ago.
jmho
We now return to our regularly scheduled program...

Looks like the last time neither team was ranked when they played each other was 1961, when neither team was ranked in the AP the entire year. Only 10 teams were ranked in 1961, but Nebraska went 3-6-1, and Oklahoma started 0-5 and ended up 5-5, so neither team would have cracked a top-25 poll anyway.
They played each other 40 times between 1962 and 2004, with at least 1 of the teams ranked all 40 times.
