Transitioning Out of the Spread
Transitioning Out of the Spread
I read a newspaper article this morning about how Florida has transitioned out of the spread and is implementing more power formations with considerable success. Part of the problem, Urban M said was dealing with the speed in their conference. Anway, I just wanted to throw it out there as to whether OSU is going through a similar transition and feeling some of the same success. |

The play that pittman scored on from 67 yards out has been in the play books forever in Ohio State laurels. The key to this play is the left guard pulling to the right and taking out the inside linebacker while mangold has to perfect his block on the other side. we ran this to perfection with Michigan in 2001 and also against K-State at the Fiesta of 2004. It has to be called when the defense is least expecting it. But i keep thinking back to the day of Jamar Martin when he played and cleared some great holes for Jonathon Wells. I think we can develope a good blocking back with some of the talent we have. Ohio state needs to do some tinkering in this area.

Lil Pepper brings the wood at fullback! He just needs to learn WHO to hit!
I thought we'd see more of Dionte Johnson this year! May be now with Schnit hurt we'll see him more! |

I thought that the coaches this year turned Schnit into more of a RB? And Johnson was going to get some more action at FB. OSU should do what my hs team has done this year, take a big lineman that isn't seeing alot of action on the line and make him a FB. We did this and our guy(the o-lineman) gets in there a just chugs it through the defense, it takes about 3-4 guys to take him down. He had 2 tds in one game this year.

Plus i saw Utah do it last year in a blowout, it was a D-line guy, but its the same concept, he got a td on the play too. |

There is a reason you don't see that happening anywhere in the big ten. We will be practicing our execution of normal plays against Illinois. No need to train a lineman to carry the ball less effectively than Troy/Pitt can. Also, Utah doesn't play in a real conference, at least not on D.

Well it was just a suggestion, seeing how we're kinda short on the FB role i would think that he would be a good back-up to Johnson.

I think we would see Stan White get carries before one of our OL starts toting the rock.
