methomps, the "I should have made the 8 or 16 team playoff" pill coming from a 3 or 4 loss team is still a lot easier to swallow than the "I got screwed even though I was undefeated" pill.

lol USC 4 time champs...hahah. I'm sorry but there is no way Miami wouldn't have taken care of USC in 2002...and it would have been Ohio State vs. Miami. I agree with 1998.

A plus one system would work better if you only had the extra game if the two top teams after the bowl game had the same amount of losses. So if you had two undefeated teams at the end of the season, you played the plus one game, if not, you didn't worry about it. If you had two one loss teams, you play the game, etc..
Of course you could just knock the amount of D-1 teams down to 96, and have eight conferences of twelve teams, each conference split into North/South, East/West, etc. Have a ten game reg. season schedule with two out of confernece games mandated by NCAA, five games against your half of the conference, and three games against the other half alternating each year.
Play the conference championship in a preexisting Bowl location, start the playoffs of the eight conference winnners, play each playoff game in an existing bowl location, and then have the championship game alternating around the bowl system.
Sounds logical, but then it becomes the NFL. Those two ooc games are meaningless. The Texas-tOSU games at the beginning of the season lose their flare.
Personally, I am fine with the system. It makes people bitch and moan, but if you want to win the NC, bring on some tough ooc teams, beat 'em all, and you will wind up in the NC game. Lose a game, then you have no reason to whine. It's unique, it keeps people talking, and fans know that one loss can kill you, making EVERY game thrilling, exciting, and makes you worry when you are losing to okie lite at half time.

Disagree- USC would have beat Miami in 2002 by 2 TD's. IMO USC at the end of the season that year was BETTER than any USC team I have watched in the last few years including this years team.
Methomps- What do you think? This years team and the last 3 how would you rank them.

the plus 1 system will work if they make it out to be a Final Four like tournament where the 1 seed plays 4 and 2 plays 3 and then the winners play another bowl game. Its not perfect - I think an 8 team playoff would be ideal with the first round games being played at the higher seeds stadium - but its better than what we have now.
