Cinci - good point on the clock management issue. It does seem to take precious seconds of game time when the Buckeyes are trying to get things going in the waning seconds of a half.

However, as far as the above is concerned -- isn't that rather like asked and answered? With a 3 WR set you would likely want your TE and RB to pass protect early. They may or may not release and go down-field, but that will be dictated by the defense you face. Against Penn State's D my feeling is that max protect had to be extended, or Troy would be flushed from the pocket early.

This has nothing to do with Troy Smith. That garbage was happening even when Krenzel was there and was a senior--the plays would come in too late, and by the time our guys got lined up, we'd often have to take a timeout or would be flagged for delay of game. That's something there's no excuse for, and it's frustrating to watch.

Well, we've had a perfect season witrh a NC and a 11-2 season with a consensus #4 ranking. Our "bad" year was the same 8-4 record that was the best of the three I listed above. Now if we don't run the table, we're a disappointment, and even when we win it sucks if it's not a blowout.
I think the team has put this on itself a little bit...after all, weren't they ones saying this team closely resemble the 2002 team in the offseason?

Fans were led to believe, rightly or wrongly, that 2005 would be 2002 all over again...undefeated...win the close games...win the big games...win the NC - now that's not happening they're jumping off cliffs.

You are correct there, this has been a problem for years.
Its baffling really, we all know what the play call is going to be, why does it take so long to decide?

ding ding ding, we have a winner. Smith is being put in a box. Now he stinks up that box of his own doing somewhat, but if he is given back that freedom it will be a much better version of ugly tresselball

I want to know what the QB's are wearing the armbands with the plays on them for since it seems like they get the plays directly from JT or an incoming WR every down. Heck Smith wears his armband on his belt, which should make it impossible to read if they are putting 70-100 plays on there like they should. It should take the coach about 2 seconds to signal in the play number. If they're worried about other teams sniffing out their play numbers make a few armbands and switch them up during the game. JT seems to run the sideline like a Jr High team.

I don't know but when I was in high schoo, we had a college qb as the ocordinator it was strictly the plays that would be called in the two minute drill, and he would signal in the number.

As for Mili's post above I think you hit the nail on the head.
