Ohio University to play Ohio State in 2008

And as an Ohio alum... I do hope Ohio can upset Ohio State for what it would do to the program that Solich is building. Do I see it happening? Ummm... well... no. But I have hope.

And about the passing offense? Don't be kidding, we haven't had a decent throwing QB for decades. We've had some great option QBs under Grobe, but nothing more. But supposedly we have a JUCO transfer that might be able to change that. Then again we had a true freshman QB give Ohio State a scare for the first half the last we met.

I really shouldn't derive any pleasure out of this, but whatever. Going back to '06, if I could cut and paste together the threads from the NIU, BGSU, Akron, and KSU games from their individual sites, they would follow almost identical trends:

1. "We're gonna kick the [censored] out of them come September!" Insert obligatory references to "Ohio A&M," "Luckeyes," cheating, Maurice Clarett, etc.
2. "WE'RE GONNA SHOCK THE WORLD!" "GREATEST UPSET EVER!!!"
3. "Why the [censored] is OSU [insert irrelevant action that could remotely be twisted into a slight against said MAC school]??? Totally classless!"
4. A few days prior to game day, the planning of the "bar takeover" begins. "Which bar in Columbus are we going to completely take over? We're gonna fill every bar in Columbus with [insert MAC school colors]!!!"
5. "Takeover bar" is selected. Usually ends up being a crappy bar way the hell out in Worthington, not even remotely close to the stadium.
6. Planning of which colors said MAC fans should wear to "totally make it look like we took over their stadium."
7. Game day arrives. More "SHOCK THE WORLD!!!" but in bolder letters and larger font.
8. A minute after kick-off, OSU scores the first TD. "WTF's" abound.
9. End of first quarter, OSU is up by 28 points. "OMG we're getting slaughtered."
10. At halftime everyone is ready to burn their head coach at the stake. "WTF ADJUSTMENTS????!!!!!!"
11. Game over, usually lost by 20 points or more. The group rallies around the fact that they "totally took over" said crappy bar in Worthington.

what's funny is that really is the exact template for pretty much every thread on a messageboard concerning a small time school that's playing Ohio State. i mean, i guess if you'e rooting for the OU's and miami of ohio's of the world, that's pretty much what you have to do to get excited for your team, but geez.

Wow, I had no idea how insane some of those people were. I guess it shouldn't come as a surprise, every team has fans like that. But you'd think we were bitter rivals who played each other year after year.

I was excited for this game because a bunch of OU friends are coming to Columbus to party. Those ignorant people at least give me another reason to be excited.

We are bitter rivals...it has nothing to do with sports.

I do not get the "Ohio A&M" slight. I mean, isn't Ohio State more selective than Ohio U. now? Does Ohio Univ. have any programs other than Journalism and communications that anyone has ever heard of or pays any mind to? And,doesn't their Medical School only grant D.O's?

It makes no sense as Ohio State could buy and sell Ohio U. 10 times over and still have enough money, clout and respect to buy out Toledo, Bowling Green and Northern Ohio just for S#*ts and giggles.
