I do want him off because he doesn't have a good learning curve. Anybody that can get caught for the same crime twice in four weeks is stupid. Do we need stupid players on the team? I must admit that I don't know how long it should have been between offenses, lol. Maybe he should be off the team simply because it was the same offense twice in less than a year. If he can't learn something as simple (and instintive?) as not getting caught by police, how will he learn what to do when there is real pressure.

So if he got caught for speeding twice in 4 weeks should he still be kicked off? [If he can't learn something as simple (and instintive?) as not getting caught by police, how will he learn what to do when there is real pressure.]
I'm glad nobody called for OSU to take away my scholarship a couple years back.

This is nowhere near the same league as LI and IG. When they tally OSU criminal offenses this should be in its own category. I compare it, almost, to Ricky Williams getting busted for ganja. Williams shouldn't get any fines or anything for that. If he tested positive for crack, then get him help, fine him, etc.
Same for Trapassedout. He's going to have to go do something like AA for this so people get off his back If he's the starter he'll end up answering questions like the coke Smoker from MSU about his "sickness" and how he overcame that obvious hurdle. I guess when can rule out the AJ standing for "Always Judicious". :boohoo:

Didn't it suck to have several websites devoted to talking about how what you did would or wouldn't hurt OSU's image? I've been following the Buckeyes for about 35 years, and following the boards since '96. Yet I don't remember reading anything about one of our players (Clevebucks, a couple years back) being in trouble twice in four weeks. I guess what I'm saying is that your mistakes didn't bring us even local attention, while our (probable) starting punter brings us national attention.
I guess I do come off as being over the top , but better some punishment (NOT a slap on the wrist) than none.

Just to clarify, it WASN'T a football scholarship. Didn't mean to imply it was. In general the point is the same though.
How would a coach even recruit under that policy? "Sure Mr. Johnson, we care about Junior getting an education. Two underage drinking tickets, though, and he's gone. You can't get an education or function as a normal human being when you drink before you hit 21. Here at The Ohio State University, our students pack the Main Library on Friday night."
"But Coach Tressel, I had plenty of fun in college, and I turned out fine. We got drunk 3 nights a week on South Campus in the 70's."
"Sorry Sir, but we cant have 18-20 year olds drinking beer. The press will hammer me."
It'd be like recruiting for BYU or West Point.

If you think for a min. the other players aren't drinking (sure a few prob. don't drink... but most do), you're kidding yourself...
Maybe I was an A-holic, while in school... I just don't see getting ripped that big of a deal for a kid in college... I don't know how may times I had to get friends out of Athens drunk tank in the middle of the night (and later on, at the county jail for doing stupid stuff...)... but then again there wasn't anything to do in that town, except drink, party, and chase the ladies...

This is a bullshit situation. This kid is only guilty of getting caught for what 99% of us did at his age.
Give the kid a break and let him be a kid. Sadly, now Courts are involved. The next time any of you "Holier-Than-Thou" asses are cruising down the hoghway and see your speedometer hit "70" why don't you turn your ass into the local PD. Be'atches!!!

I actually feel bad for him. He has been caught for something that most kids his age do. I know many students that I work with that are underage that drink. I just wish he would choose his times and places better. But as far as removing him from the team is just silly. There have been a host of more serious "crimes" comitted by players in the last 2 years that would warrant such treatment, but I don't thik AJ's are that serious. Hopefully someone on the team will step up and help him be more careful.

First of all, I highly doubt OSU is getting any publicity out of this outside of Ohio. Do we ever hear when somebody from Miami, or USC, or Oklahoma, is ticketed for underage consumption? Hell no we don't. It's not even a newsworthy event unless you care about OSU football.
|
at least one major website had it up, so we are being looked at, it might be a small charge, the majority of the people on this board probally had a beer before they were legal, but the point is that he just had the same offense not to long ago and add that to the list of bad pub OSU is receiving on a daily basis and I can see Coach T starting to reach the breaking point on ANY misconduct by anyone on the team, the times are changing at OSU, 1 recent national championship and you are looked at even more than usual.
These kids have to use their heads!
