Current Buckeys Moving Up the All-Time Charts
As much as us Buckeyes love to talk about what it must had been like in "the old days", we also must accept that times will move on, amazing records will be surpassed and new Hall Of Famers will emerge. This year, that is no exception with at least 3 OSU feats are likely beging to be hopped over. In your opinion, how many do you think gets broke this season?
-> Linebacker A.J. Hawk has 375 career tackles and needs five to pass Pepper Johnson (379) for fifth place. Steve Tovar is fourth with 408.
-> Holmes has 129 career receptions and needs four to pass Dee Miller (132) into fifth place. Gary Williams is fourth with 154.
->Troy Smith has 10 rushing touchdowns this year, fourth best in school history for a quarterback. He needs two to tie Cornelius Greene (12 in 1973) for third. The record is 14 by Les Horvath in 1944, followed by Art Schlichter’s 13 in 1978. Last year, Smith almost broke an OSU record with QB Rush yardage against Michigan - but fell 1 yard shy.

Does passing #5 on an all time list count as breaking a record?

I think it should - to move up into the Top 5 of ANYTHING at Ohio State - in FOOTBALL is something just as herald. For instance, Pepper Johnson had RECORDED 379 tackles, Hawk will likely break his record and move into 5th.

Unless it's the best of the category, it's not a "record"...

Not true, you can record something and it can be a personal record. I didnt title it "Breaking the top records", I limited to other players records.
None-the-less, you shouldnt be arguing about the correct terminology, but being happy for these 3 guys. This was in todays Dispatch BTW and knew people like Mili wouldnt be able to see it, so I put it out here.

Semantics aside, I see Smith breaking the record (if bowl games count) and both others ending the season in 5th place.

If they( OSU) counts them like the NCAA does, then the stats in the bowl game will count towards OSU records.
That was a growing complaint by people who say that new records in the NCAA that were broken with the bowl included should have an * next to them, since before bowl games didn't count towards records.
Now I myself don't consider a "record" an actual "record" if they were broke with the assistance of stats from a bowl game.
But again I would believe OSU does count the bowl game stats since Art Schlichter's single game passing record was set against Florida State...in a bowl game.

Sorry, TG05... NOT in a bowl game. Unless for some odd reason a Bowl Game was played in the 'Shoe on October 3, 1981.
