Amos battled back to lineup
Former Middie worked way back from injury to play for OSU in BCS championship.

NEW ORLEANS ? Andre Amos went up for a pass in a practice last spring, and on landing, he felt the pain so feared by athletes. It was a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, which was a roadblock for the sophomore from Middletown.
"It was a major setback," Amos said. "When it first happened, I didn't find out right away, they kind of waited a couple days, and really all I could look to was my family and my coaches. They kept my spirits up."
In recovering from the injury, Amos has become the backup to cornerback Malcolm Jenkins in the Ohio State secondary and enters the game as an extra defensive back in the Buckeyes' plans for the BCS championship game against LSU on Monday.

Amos Made Best Of 2007 Setback.........Amos rehabed his knee injury and returned in just 5 months instead of 8 months as expected. Amos is expecting to make an impact in 2008.

Anyone else think Amos will see extensive action against USC? He looks like he'd be able to handle USC's big receivers.

Our CB depth is VERY good... but I just cant help but be worried about the Safety depth without Jamario and Clifford.

Who made a mark? Andre Amos
Sunday, April 20, 2008 6:39 AM
Andre Amos
? Basics: Junior cornerback
? Quick history: Considered a stellar cover corner coming out of high school, he underwent major knee surgery in the spring a year ago after playing in 12 games primarily on special teams in 2006. He returned to play on three special-teams units the last half of the 2007 season.
? Spring game display: He led the Gray with eight tackles, including five solo. In man coverage, he made a strong hit on Ray Small to keep him to a 4-yard gain on third-and-6 in the second quarter.
? What it means: With starting cornerback Donald Washington being disciplined late in the spring, Chimdi Chekwa moved into that No. 1 role and Amos stepped up to the No. 1 nickel back in certain situations.
? Quotable: "Ever since a couple of guys went down, Andre definitely stepped into the role. He played very well through the whole spring and I think he is ready to be thrown into the rotation." -- safety Kurt Coleman
