I thought that they would go undefeated and be in the NC, but beating Michigan and seeing how bright the future of this program could be took alot of the sting out of the two losses.
I think it's more how we lossed the games that was the most disappointing thing.

Michigan finished the season #17 that year... losing to them was horrendous. Losing to Texas/PSU hurts, but is not nearly as embarrassing.

We have continued our dominance over UM, and may succeed in putting ND in their place (which will reap huge dividends). Both will be invaluable achievements. True we have allowed a regional power, PSU, to be reborn, but they will have to rebuild somewhat next year.

I see the comparisons, but I think this season will be sweeter if we beat ND. We also have improved a lot as the season has progressed this year, whereas we fell apart down the stretch in 95.

Great Seasons

1995 was a great season, but that scUM loss really tainted it.
1998...Damn if it wasn't for that MSU game.

This year, if we had just had all cylinders running at the beginning of the year, I think we could have challenged USC.

Remember, most of us thought we didn't have a chance versus Miami in the NC game. Miami had Dorsey, McGahee, KWjr and some other incredible players. We had Doss, Wilhelm, Fox, Will Smith, Nickey, Cie Grant, Will Allen, Krenzel, MoC, and on and on.

Despite the lack of turnovers, I think our D this year is comparable to 2003. We're the only team to hold Tejas to under 40 points. If we had more offensive production, we could have won that game. Now we have the offense in place. We're dangerous and it's really fun to watch.

The Bucks played 8 ranked teams and finished 6th in both polls, plus had a Heisman winner (Eddie George) and a Lombardi winner (Orlando Pace) and a Biletnikoff winner (Terry Glenn).

How many of you thought that 1995 was a "special" season? I guess the timing of the losses had something to do with it (it always seems to hurt more when OSU loses to Michigan and in bowl games), but 2005 is basically the same thing as 1995: even if the Bucks beat ND, it's a 2-loss season with no hope for an NC.

Another question: How many of you thought that the Buckeyes would be undefeated this year? According to our pre-season poll, almost 50% of you, with another 30% voting for 11-1. A 10-2 finish should seem pretty disappointing right now....

Yes, I agree that JT has done a lot of good for the program, but let's be a little bit realistic about this season. Top 5 finishes are nice, but they don't give out trpohies for them.

Maybe 2006 will be our year (and there's no reason why it shouldn't be).
1995 just shows what kind of big-game choke Hee-yuk Cooper was, especially with the NFL talent he had, and this year shows just how great a improve-the-team-through-the-season coach Tressel is. Don't forget we should've won the Texas game if not for the Hamby drop and/or the A. Smith missed tackle in the Texas end zone on our kickoff. 1995 was a 2-loss season with losses to a mediocre Michigan team and a bowl loss. This year is a 2-loss season with a great comeback win over Michigan at their place, along with our losses being to the #2 and #3 BCS teams, plus a chance at playing Notre Dame in a BCS bowl, so how can this season not be better than 1995?

Oh yeah, just because they don't give out a trophy for being #4 in the BCS, that doesn't mean this season still wasn't special. By the way, they do give out a trophy for a Fiesta Bowl win...

After the Penn State game it isnt such a bad finish.

When you look at how this team has progressed its amazing and looking forward to next year has softened the blow somewhat. I think our 2 loss buckeye team is the perfect reason why there should be a playoff.

Mili: "1995 just shows what kind of big-game choke Hee-yuk Cooper was"

Definately. The 1995 team (most people don't know this) was the most decorated CFB team in history. Think about that: it had the Heisman, Lombardi, Biletnikoff, and Walter Camp award winners all on the same team AND in the same season!! Think about that ..

Everyone I know (OSU fans or not) were calling that the best CFB team they ever saw, up until the scUM game. It was uinimaginable that the '95 team could get beat. I was even ultra-confident going into Ann Arbor that season, even with Coop as the coach.

How you could possibly lose TWO games with that team still shocks me to this day
