BP Awards: The Nuuuuuuge (Best Kicker)
Of all the BP Awards, the balloting for The Nuuuuuuge was the closest. OSU's Alexis Serna edged out OSU's Josh Huston. Congratulations, Alexis, for rebounding this season after a dreadful start to your 2004 campaign (remember those three missed PAT's in a 22-21 loss to LSU?), and winning the first annual Nuuuuuuge Award as the nation's best place kicker!
The full results are set forth below, with number of first place votes in parentheses: Alexis Serna (Oregon State) - 204 (16) Josh Huston (Ohio State) - 200 (11) Mason Crosby (Colorado) - 183 (15) Jad Dean (Clemson) - 123 (2) Brandon Coutu (Georgia) - 93 (3) Darren McCaleb (Southern Miss) - 40 Connor Hughes (Virginia) - 37 (1) Sam Swank (Wake Forest) - 18 Stephen Gostkowski (Memphis) - 16 Dan Beardall (Utah) - 16 Brandon Pace (VPI) - 14 (1) Robert Lee (East Carolina) - 11 Jason Robbins (Toledo) - 8 (1) Kyle Schlicher (Iowa) - 8 Mike Barrow (Idaho) - 6 Mario Danelo (Southern Cal) - 5 Deric Yaussi (Wyoming) - 4 Jeff Snodgrass (Kansas State) - 3 Bruce Redden (Oklahoma State) - 3 Chris Manfredini (TCU) - 3 Jamie Christensen (Alabama) - 2 Todd Soderquist (Miami of Ohio) - 2 Brad DeVault (Tulsa) - 1 John Deraney (NC State) - 1 Justin Medlock (UCLA) - 1 Clint S[censored]er (Fresno State) - 1 Note: Six points were awarded for each first place vote, 5 points for each second, etc. |

I originally was also going to vote for Serna (ended up voting for Huston) until he missed three out of four attempts in his next to last game.

I think it's a great story that Serna could bounce back this year, after missing two extra points last year against LSU, and just having a disappointing year, last year. Congrats on a great year to him.
Edit: Oh... he missed three? |

I guess a first place vote gets one point for each 'U' in teh name of the award.
Congrats to Alexis Serna. |

Here's how I voted for this one. Huston had a great year...but there were other kickers that had better. Huston was a 50 yard field goal away from winning the award I think. Who else voted for Soderquist? Good vote...he had a great season.
The Nuge - for best kicker 1. Mason Crosby, Colorado 2. Alexis Serna, Oregon State 3. Josh Huston, Ohio State 4. Jad Dean, Clemson 5. Brandon Coutu, Georgia 6. Todd Soderquist, Miami, OH |

Huston probably a little more accurate, but Crosby is a better long distance kicker. I hate to say it, but I'd vote for Crosby.
