<!-- //===== START BODY =====\\ --> Several football players from The University of Texas are being investigated by the Austin Police Department for robbery by assault, according to sources close to the investigation.
The investigation stems from two incidents on Sept. 4 and December 10.
The two incidents involve robbery by assault. Sources tell us that the victims are telling police they were downtown when they were beaten up and robbed of their money.
There have been no arrests and no indictments in the investigations, but the cases have been turned over to the district attorney's office for further review.
At least three of the players may be starters for the Longhorn team, sources say.
The Texas Longhorns are ranked No. 2 in the nation and are set to play USC for the National Championship in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 4. It remains unclear what impact these criminal investigations will have on the team's starting line-up.

Couldn't edit the previous post..aparently Ramonce Taylor and their starting safety Cedric Griffin are in trouble..may be some of the texas fans could give us more info on what's happening

This could be baaaaaad news for the Horns. Taylor they can overcome with their depth at RB, but they need all the help they can get in the secondary, and Griffin is a stud.

Stories like these completely dumbfound me. I know these guys are still in the "dumb kid" stage of their life, but I don't understand what is going through their heads.

Acts like this show no respect for their teammates, millions of UT fans, students and alumni, and all the great players that came before them.

It never suprises me anymore when this stuff happens. It seems like every other day some student athlete is in trouble with the law.

These stories usually start out very one-sided. Here is a quote from an attorney representing Griffin. You have to consider the source, but at least it is something:

"I have agreed to advise Cedric Griffin although no criminal charges have been filed against him. He is the subject of an investigation -- and I stress it is an investigation," Oden told Schad. "I believe no charges will be filed against him. They're saying this is assault and robbery, and it sounds hideous, but this is a trash-talking incident on the street involving Cedric and that's it. I know this is a big game and they're focused on it. But in fairness to Cedric, this was nothing more than a verbal incident in as much as it involves Cedric."

Cedric is a corner, rumors are bouncing around like crazy, seems as if there were two seperate incidents, the story being told is that the latest incident was last weekend, and involved some trash talking and shoving on sixth street (our bar street), but no telling where the handgun angle comes into play, or the robbery angle.

everything else being said on message boards seems to be, my friend said this...and my friend of a good source said that......

if it is just shoving, talking, I don't think a huge deal will be made out of it. But if there was a handgun involved? just heard about all of this, came home from a bar for a quick change, now this. oh well, guess I will keep drinking until I forgot what happened.

I've seen enough. Who needs an investigation and trial?

Let's try to work together to rehabilitate these kids and save the Texas taxpayer some money.

There is a simple way we can do that in my opinion.

As it happened prior to the game, Texas should forfeit their win against Ohio State. It may seem harsh, but it is important that they give up something they really like so that we know they are really sorry they got involved, whatever happened .

Seriously though, this whole thing does not add up. Robbery? Why? Assault? Why? In the first incident this follows a walloping of La. Lafeyette by the Horns in Austin - you would think they would be the toast of the town. The second comes one week to the day after Tejas iced the Big12 championship in decisive fashion. Who would be stirring things up with any of the players on the Longhorn squad in Austin on the heels of such a performance?
Sometimes when incidents such as this get highlighted in the media I wonder if the underlying story is one of the alleged victims seeking their own 15 minutes of fame.
