I honestly like the '05 squad over the '02 squad on defense, offense and special teams. The difference is turnovers on both sides of the ball. This years offense has turned the ball over and made critical mistakes way more than the '02 team. I think this years D was better but for whatever reason did not create the turnovers like the '02 team did.
The '01 Miami team is in my opinion the best team ever. They dominated on both sides of the ball. I'm happy to say we ended that run!

This year's defense is not even close to the 2002 defense. The 2002 defense allowed 12.6 ppg in regulation, while the 2005 defense allowed 14.8. The 2002 defense gave up 400+ yards in one game only (415 at Cincinnati), while the 2005 squad gave up 578 at Minnesota and 456 against Michigan State. The most regulation points the 2002 defense allowed was 21 (Texas Tech, and the last TD was against the bench defense after Tech recovered an on-side kick late in the 4th quarter, down 45-14), while the 2005 defense allowed 21+ points four times (31 at Minnesota, 24 against Michigan State, 23 against Texas, and 21 at Michigan). Keep in mind that our 2002 offense was not as good as this year's offense, and kept the 2002 defense on the field a lot longer than this year's offense kept this year's defense on the field.

true. i think this years LB core is far superior but our secondary was much stronger and we had intangible players that swayed a lot of matchups our way and confused offense. IE: will smith as standup LB/TE cover guy/down lineman and cie grant as a DB/LB. plus our defensive line was better with peterson. if i had to choose the 02 or 05 team to play USC this year i would pick the 05 team because they have a potent enough offense and defensively we might give up the pass sometimes but bush and white would be held to their lowest yards rushing on the season. it would just depend on how much below what they usually run. it would definitely be interesting.

A team with the 2002 defense and this year's offense could beat USC...

...Am I the only one in the world that thinks USC was better last year?
As for the '02 OSU team... they were underestimated and underrated the entire year, why did anyone think it would be ANY different when it came to something like this?
I bet that ESPN will only have them losing to the #1, maybe #2 teams in this thing.
Also, the '98 Bucks probably had a better shot at this '05 USC team than our '02 guys. Look, I loved the '02 team but we'd probably have to score 30-35 points to win, and I don't know if we could get that out of them. Hell, the '98 team would probably be in the top 5 of this list if... well you know.

i think USC is far better this year as opposed to last. people have pointed out problems on defense but over half of their defensive starters have LITERALLY been out for a good part of the year. plus the offense only looks better. it would be scary if they had mike williams last year but this years team is much better imo. i would rank USC as the best team ever as well from what i have seen. they have arguably the best players in the nation at almost every position especially on offense. however like i said before it is so hard to tell because you cant just matchup teams like this. i was one of the few people that picked osu over miami in 02 in our little group of "buckeye fans" that was watching the game. thing is nobody REALLY knows what would happen if they squared off
damn you why do you have to bring back the nightmares of that 98 season although i do agree. the 98 team might be better but its hard to say but i have to disregard them anyways because you know who would blow the big games for us.

I just can't wait until USC loses the title game... then ESPN can reveal that they are the best team of all time and look like a bunch of jackasses
