Just wanted to bump this to say that I'm really impressed with Washington's emergence last year and I'll go out on a limb and say that most likely very few on the site predicted that out of him as a frosh CB.
He and Malcolm could be one of the top corner tandems in the country next year depending on how much DW develops and improves in the off-season.

The emergence of a second quality corner could seal the deal for the 2007 defense (cautious optimism). The ability to play solid man, will allow Heacock to dig a little deeper into the pressure schemes, using the safeties, as well as the backers. Washington certainly has the potential, and this spring is critical to his development.

I don't expect to see a lot of solid man out of Heacock regardless. The man is in love with zone defense. Then again, some of this will depend on what kind of push our new DTs get and of course (our DEs I'm not worried about).

Yea, regardless of the cover corners we possess, our coaching philosophy doesnt seem to embrace the "Silver Bullet" method of defense... Too much zone, and not enough of letting guys like Jenkins rough guys up..

I thought we played an aggressive defense in '05 when we had an experienced corp. However, last year, with inexperience in the secondary, Heacock didn't bring as much blitzing, probably because he didn't have the same trust in the back 7 as he did in '05. I think the softer zone defense last year had more to do with the fact that we had an inexperienced defense.

The meeting was boring besides a highlight clip. It showed clips of the team playing basketball, and Donald Washington probably could win the NBA dunk contest right now. Spring football starts on the 29th.

Good read discussing Donald's 2 INT day and his progression.
