Washington had a great game yesterday. Best of his young career at Ohio State.
I'm not sure I like moving Malcolm to nickel and Chekwa playing the opposite corner. Sure, I'm happy to admit that the coaches know much more than I do about this stuff, but I'd rather keep Jenkins and Washington at the corners in the nickel package.

In the nickel, both Washington and Jenkins are on the field. It really boils down to Jenkins' tackling and ball-hawking abilities and the coaches being more comfortable with our 3rd corner than our 3rd safety right now.

Exactly right Tresselbeliever, and I have also noticed that the coverage scheme in the nickel package often uses Jenkins in coverage when 3 wide or 4 wide expects him to lockdown on the inside receiver of the field side of the formation. Checkwa usually appears to line up on the outside receiver of the field side. I have noticed that Jenkin's nickel responsibilities give him more freedom in zone coverage, but in 4 wide the safety position and corner seem to be more interchangeable in coverage. Washington usually has primary coverage on boundary side, and in 3 or 4 wide he has safety help from Russell or Coleman. Evidence of Washington's effectiveness and improvement is Bryant's meager contributions (2 rec,-4 yds). Wanted to rewatch the game tape to check whether Bryant was lined up on boundary or field side of formations, and if he lined up on boundary formation, whether Jenkins was given the assignment. The other receivers were no slouches either. Keller was a handful, Lymon and Orton too. Missed tackles were rare and with the size of Purdue's receiving corps it speaks volumes to the improvements of DWash et. al. Tackling appears to be a real source of pride and witnesses to the improved work for all TOSU dbs.

Considering the defense didn't allow Purdue inside the 40 until the last 90 seconds of garbage-time, and that Dorien Bryant had negative receiving yards for the game, I'll concur with the part I bolded.
I also agree that it was the best game he's played to date.

Ohio State's Donald Washington, right, sprints for the end zone on a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown in the first half.
The play itself was simple: bad pass, picked off, touchdown.
It was the back story yesterday that made cornerback Donald Washington's score compelling. His second-quarter play helped Ohio State roll to a 48-3 win over Kent State.
Last season, Washington dropped an easy interception against Indiana. He didn't get a good chance at another, so the near miss stuck with him during the offseason.
And last week, Buckeyes defenders failed to haul in at least four catchable passes in a win at Purdue. It was so bad, the defensive coaches started docking players' weekly grades for dropped interceptions.
