IIRC, there were some rumblings about McCartney's LA recruiting connections prior to Newheisal

Anyone hear if Tressel was back in the valley? I went past the Youngstown Sports Grill and they had a Welcome Home sign, he was probably in the area speaking or something.

He was at a United Way benefit in Boardman. There was a post in Kelly Pavlik's thread.

Tressel: OSU let Big Ten down
Buckeyes' coach rues performance in BCS title game
Published June 12, 2007
The debate over the relative strength of the Big Ten as a powerhouse football conference continues after Ohio State was stomped 41-14 by Florida in the BCS title game in January.
"There were a lot of things disappointing about that BCS championship game," Ohio State coach Jim Tressel told the Tribune. "The most disappointing thing was that we didn't feel we played to our potential.
"But one of the other things that was disappointing to me was the fact that we didn't represent the Big Ten like we should have. I have always felt that if you can get through the Big Ten schedule and get into that championship game, you should be set. And obviously our play didn't reflect that."
Michigan lost 32-18 to USC in the Rose Bowl, Purdue dropped a 24-7 decision to Maryland in the Champs Sports Bowl, Iowa fell 26-24 to Texas in the Alamo Bowl and Texas Tech beat Minnesota 44-41 in the Insight Bowl. Only Wisconsin and Penn State from the Big Ten came home with bowl wins.

Ohio State turning a weakness into a strength
By Robert Rousseau on June 26, 2007 12:58 AM
Let's say that you're Jim Tressel, head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes . Your favored club gets absolutely waxed by the Florida Gators in the 2007 BCS National Championship game, 41-14. Further, your Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback, Troy Smith, only completes 4-of-14 passes for 35 yards.
Smith, a guy who had stood in there and looked down the throat of great college defenses successfully in the past, was unable to even buy a minute. Though the pressure came from everywhere, it was particularly obvious that the Buckeyes' offensive tackles were outclassed in a big way in terms of athleticism.
Some coaches would do little to nothing about that. After all, getting to the national championship is a great thing by itself. But not Tressel. You see, he immediately saw what needed to be done.

I think the Big Ten should put a extra game or a bye week in the schedule so the teas don't have sucha big layoff from regular season to bowl games.
