i totally agree, Rock. there's defnitely no 'zippity doo da' going through his head in that pic. he's got his game face on. looks like he's out for blood. when i was a kid, if my dad gave me that look i knew i was in BIG trouble.

I've got him pictured in my mind more like a "Charlie don't surf!" kinda guy (Apocalypse Now).

It just occurred to me that some people on BP might be too young to have seen the Apocalypse Now segment where Robert DeNiro tells a a young surfing champion, now under his command as a troop, that "charlie don't surf!", as he tries to get the young man into the water to show off his surfing skills while an air cavalry attack is underway.
When I commented below, I referred to DeNiro's calm demeanor on the beach with mortars striking all around him, from about the 1 minute point of the second link. The "charlie don't surf" comment starts the first link. lv's comment about napalm is at about the 5 minute mark of the second link.

Duvall. Not DeNiro.
DeNiro was filming a very different Vietnam flick (The Deer Hunter), telling Christopher Walken that "Charlie don't play Russian Roulette!"
