FWIW, I read in 2002 that he only has two bonuses written in to his contract..........one for academic improvement, and the other for a NC berth. He suppoedly declined others........10 games, beat scUM, Rose Bowl, etc. He thinks that's what he's supposed to do. Don't know if it's changed, but that's what it was 5 years ago, if I recall correctly.

One of the first questions reporters were anxious to ask Jim Tressel concerned his vote in the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll.
Tressel, the Ohio State football coach, declined to vote for the final rankings last season after the Buckeyes already had clinched a spot in the national championship game, a decision that drew wide criticism.
"I was scolded pretty good last year for not voting," Tressel said Sunday night after the announcement that top-ranked Ohio State will play Louisiana State in the BCS national championship game Jan. 7. "Grant Teaff (executive director of the American Football Coaches Association) told me if I didn't do it this year, I'd never be able to vote the rest of my life."

That's stupid.. Tressel was absolutely right to not vote last year. If a team is clearly #1, they should never vote, because their best interest (getting the worst team so they win) is the complete opposite of the country's best interest (getting the best game possible so it's a good game).
Of course, Tressel probably voted LSU #2, but still.. Stupid rule.

Jim Tressel received a nice birthday present today.
The Ohio State coach turned 55 and was named a finalist for the Eddie Robinson coach of the year award by the Football Writers Association of America.
Tressel is one of eight finalists, along with Frank Beamer of Virginia Tech, Troy Calhoun (Air Force), Dennis Erickson (Arizona State), June Jones (Hawaii), Mark Mangino (Kansas), Gary Pinkel (Missouri) and Ron Zook (Illinois).
