OSU football Seniors

A little nostalgia...

Below are capsules of what scout had to say about some of our graduating seniors (and redshrt juniors) and other misfits (MoC) during recruiting process. some recruits didn't have any capsules

Quinn Pitcock
The best DT from Ohio in the last 10 years. Dominating at the point of attack. Penetrates and disrupts offenses. Weight room warrior. Physically ready to play as soon as he walks on a campus. 3.7 GPA.

Troy Smith
One of the top quarterback prospects in the nation. Has tremendous speed and arm strength. Had 1,000 yards passing and 12 touchdowns in 2001.

Bobby Carpenter
One of the best prospects in the nation regardless of position. Difference maker type football player that can make an immediate impact at the next level.

Santonio Holmes
(5-11, 175, 4.45) is another great receiver from Belle Glades Central. He caught 32 passes for 931 yards and 10 scores as a junior. National Bluechips Rating: 6

MoC
Over 1200 yards and 26 touchdowns in his first 8 games this on only about 100 carries against the best competition in Ohio. Catches extremely well and is the most dangerous punt returner in the state. Ran back to back sub-4.5 forties at the Ohio State camp. The frontrunner for Mr. Football award in Ohio. Committed to Ohio State over Notre Dame. Early entry player. Will arrive on the Ohio State campus in January.

Mike D'Andrea
Andy Katzenmoyer clone but has a 3.5 GPA. Averaged 12 tackles a game this season despite playing through a knee injury that limited his mobility. Never missed a game despite the injury. Arguably the nations # 1 LB prospect.

RJ Coleman
Big tight end might be the top player in West Virginia this year with his combination of blocking and receiving abilities. In addition to being one of the state's top football recruits, Coleman won the Class AAA shot put at the state high school track and field championships as a junior.

It's really interesting to look backwards and rethink / reread thoughts and opinions...our own, the recruiting "experts", and especially (to me at least) what the player themselves expected of themselves and their career at tOSU.

i.e., I reread an article written about Malcolm Jenkins before he enrolled, but after he signed his LOI. He had a few quotes regarding his expectations and said things to the effect of..."I'm listed as a safety, but there's an open staring spot at corner and I was told that I would be given a chance to compete for it. Realistically I don't think I'll begin the season as the starter, but sometime soon after the Texas game I expect to at least be getting a lot of playing time if not starting. I just figure when the ball goes in the air I have as much right to it as the WR. I always have the mindset of 'that ball is mine', so I'm not intimidated." (I'm paraphrasing)

I remember thinking at the time, "wow! love the enthusiasm and confidence, but...c'mon...start this year at CB?!?" After readig it again a couple of weeks ago I was like, "Holy Crap! He did say all that didn't he!"

Cool stuff.

the O-Zone has a similar thing to this for everyone from 1997 to the class of 2004 (not sure where 2005 is).

It is fun to go back and read what they have to say about the guys.
