Who redshirted in '05?
No, not the Frosh. That one is easy.
But this year is unusual in that several nonn-Freshman did not play or were injured and played very little.
Rory Nicol is an example. He was a Soph this year and will be a RS Sohp next year.
I believe Gholston, Freeman, and Rehring (none of whom had redshirted previously) played in a game or two (making them ineligible for a traditional RS) but then they were injured, making them candidates for medical redshirts.
But I am not 100% sure how that works. I know the school has to petition the NCAA, but do they have to wait til their otherwise senior season, or just the end of this season?
BuckTwenty just PMd me that Lyons might be a candidate as well.
Any others? Anyone know just how this plays out procedurally?

I believe, that since they didnt use their redshirt year, that they will petition the NCAA and be granted that extra year.
I believe the guys you listed: Lyons, Nicol, Freeman, and Rehring are the only ones.
I believe this was the same thing that happened with D'andrea and why he got that extra year. When he played in 3+ games two years ago.

From what I understand, medical redshirts are easier to get if the player in question hasn't taken a redshirt. It's when you want that sixth year that the NCAA looks pretty hard. Joe Cooper, D'Andrea, Huston all got theirs, Kyle Turano did not get his sixth year.

While we're at it, does anyone mind posting the final, official list of freshman who redshirted?

Fourth column of this table.

(Albeit this is the 'official' BP list, not the official OSU list.)

I don't think Joe Cooper got six years. He was a 1997 recruit and played until 2001. I think he was considered a senior in 2000 but got an extra year because of academics (prop 48 maybe?????).

^That seems to be correct. My mistake on Cooper staying six, I just remember the NCAA granting him another year, and assumed it was because of injuries.
