Went with Nuge(obvious) and Sander, he was the more consistent of the two, while him and Groom were both good, Sander had more clutch punts it seemed like and he also won the ray guy award.

Sander was better at killing the ball inside the 20, which is why is is in the NFL now. I voted for Groom because he had a monstrous leg when we needed it most. I would like to see what his average was when he was punting from inside the OSU 10. That one was a hard call.

Nuge and Sander

Nuge was a no brainer! The punter was especially tough for me.

Most people are saying Groom over Sander, but having coached both of these guys I always knew that BJ would be the "better" guy if he ever got his head straight. He possessed a stronger leg and was able to get the hangtime necessary for the next level. Groom was clutch and that's why I think most are voting for him here (2002 NC campaign) along with his overall average, but BJ was the better all around punter from a PRO PROSPECT view (average, hangtime, placement I20, leg strength etc.).

This was a tough one as I was pushing for Groom all along to win the job b/c I knew he had more desire at the time. He actually was going to think about transferring b/f they gave him a shot. I had to pound it into his head to keep busting his ass and things would work out, and not to transfer. They would not be able to deny him the starting spot if he outperformed BJ. BJ just wasn't there yet mentally and that's why my focus was on Groom at the time.

It was just a matter of BJ getting that same "fire and desire" that Groom had. It started to come around when he realized he needed to gain the confidence of the staff back b/c Groom would be leaving after the 2002 season.

If you mixed the two together (Groom's attitude and athleticism and BJ's leg etc) you'd have a ROBO PUNTER!
