I think it's widely known that Bollman is our worst recruiter..<!-- / message -->

A tad bit critical in my opinion.

Most people who feel that way are basing it solely on the Aaron Brown situation, for which Bollman took a lot of unecessary heat. Regardless, I guarantee Fickell plays a large part in Dailey's recruiting too.

I'm basing my Bollman comments more on the fact that he was found guilty of some recruiting violations... in addition to the fact that he seems to be given the least recruiting responsibility...
Looking at the rest of our staff, its quite evident that he's the weakest link... that doesnt mean he's terrible at recruiting, but that I'd feel more confident with somebody else recruiting Daily...
That being said, Tressel knows a ton more than I do, so Im sure he's directly involved with Dailly and others..
Now back to Daily..

That was a very stupid violation and he was told not to do it.
And he is not the young energetic type person, so you don't hear a lot about him b/c he doesnt do alot of OOS recruiting. he does the instate guys that are normally recruited by anywhere from 2 to about all the guys on staff.

One violation, and it truly was not even his fault...

Can't believe this is being brought up again as all of this came out and was discussed at length during the MoC investigation.
Must be a slow news day for the Dispatch....

Great thread! It is almost comical to reread many of the comments in here 16 to 18 months later. This thread is a manual for "Flying Off the Handle 101" by a bunch of Monday morning quarterbacks.
Not naming names or anything, just saying that none of us really knows anything about what goes on behind closed doors, at closed practices, etc.
Looking at Bollman's resume now, its hard to see where the criticism ever came from. The 2002 O-line, which by all accounts wasn't a 'great' line, is now scattered across the NFL and starting for three different teams. Bentley won an award under Bollman's coaching, and Mangold should have. Rob Sims will get drafted this year; he'll no doubt be a starter at the next level too. In four of the last five Michigan games, our offensive line was superior to both UM's offensive AND defensive lines, which is purportedly where Michigan is supposed to excel. Datish and Boone are the next big breakout players on the line, and both of them will land in the NFL too.
Bollman is apparently doing something right.
