Snow during tOSU Game?

Hey folks,

new to the board, hope someone can help me with this.

a friend of mine like to make a comment about southern teams, especially florida teams. He says: "when was the last time they had to play in the snow?"

This got me to thinking, other than last year's spring game, when was the last time the bucks played in the snow. I am looking for a time when the snow was more than a light flurry and actually may have had an impact on play that day,,,any one remember??

Can't seem to find anything on it. It was a Penn State or Purdue game If I remember correctly.

which game, i do not recal one for some years now. The last I can remember when there was either snow on the field or blowing around enough to truely impact the game, I believe is a wisconsin game back in the earle bruce years. I may have it confused with the '93 wisky game, the tie.

I know the PSU and Purdue games in recent years have been quite cold, but i am looking for snow on the field or blowing and sticking during the game

I don't know if this will help, but we (not OSU) had 2 miserable games in 2000. I don't think it was snowy, but the scum game on Nov 18 would have been bitter cold. The snowiest game I ever played was on 11/9/96. OSU was at Illinois that day so they probably had it just as bad.

This the the official OSU Athletic Web Site Archives (Football). From there you click on any season in question (1968, 1996-2004). The next page displays the archive for that season. You need to click on "Season Results". That will show you a chart of all the games played that year. Each game has several links. You need the one that says "Box Score" or possibly "Statistics".

That page lists the info you seek. Just under the Scoring Summary you will see a section of text that lists times, officials and weather conditions:

Hmmmmm, last one I recall was the 69 final home game. The Bucks chased Mike Phipps all over the place. It snowed in the morning and throughout the game. Wind was rough and Purdue had no running game... but then who did against that line up?

Illinois a few years back colder than hell and snow and rain most of the first half. But Illinois wasn't much opposition in that one. The Bucks really put one on them.

But the point is that Bowl games are "home games" for Southern teams and, IMO, as such they give those teams a decided boost in the polls. On the other hand, any SEC team that wins the league championship has had to play at least three tough conference games... IMO at least the equal of an average Big 10 schedule, if not tougher.

cincibuck, actually my friends point had more to do with how a northern team is structured vs southern due to weather issues like snow,ie, more run oriented and less pass, due to rain, snow, cold etc.

as for the illi game, i cannot find a reference to snow in any in the last few years

A number of years ago, North teams we much more run dominant than now. The weather may have been a factor, but it's not just snow. It can be 12 degrees out and not snowing and getting hit going over the middle hurts just as bad as if it were snowing.

Footing might be a bigger issue in the snow, which would mean running up the gut is preferable to getting out on the edge, but that's true in rain as well... though, not quite as much as in snow, I would think.

The structure of north vs. south teams can probably be answered in this thread Speed specifically HighLonesome's post (post #5) is pretty accurate IMO.

It's funny how the myth of southern speed is such a sore subject for northern teams, but the myth about northern teams being better equipped for snow, when the season runs from September through November, when there is nearly zero snowfall in any of the northern states, is readily accepted by fans of northern schools.

Its not just the snow but the cold weather period. Yeah, UF can play games in 100 degree weather in August. But we play games in the 90's here too.

But can UF handle 30 degree kickoffs?

There was the illinois game people are talking about... I remember Ahmed Plummer had a pick six... 1998 maybe?

Before that, the last Snow game I can recall was PSU 1993. That doesn't mean there weren't others, just the ones I recall.
