Buckeyes Excel in Classroom Part II
Official Site
3/27 Buckeyes Record Another Solid Effort in the Classroom <blank></blank> <!-- PHOTO TABLE BEGINS HERE --> <table align="right" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="155"> <tbody><tr> <td rowspan="2" width="5"> </td> <td width="150">![]() Anthony Gonzalez was one of three Buckeyes who recorded a perfect 4.00 during the Winter Quarter. </td> </tr> <tr> <td> ![]() </td> </tr> </tbody> </table> <!-- PHOTO TABLE ENDS HERE --> <!-- remove this block --> <!-- end block --> March 27, 2006 COLUMBUS, Ohio - On the football field, Jim Tressel wants his Ohio State offense to rush for 200 yards a game, pass for 250 more and score at least 40 points. Defensively, the Buckeyes strive to hold their opponents to less than two touchdowns each time they take the field. Tressel has equally lofty expectations for his team in the classroom, where the goal is a cumulative 3.00 grade point average for the entire squad. The Buckeyes took a step closer to that goal this past academic quarter when 51 student-athletes posted a 3.00 or higher, raising the team GPA to a solid 2.84. Three Buckeyes - Anthony Gonzalez, James Laurinaitis and Austin Spitler - recorded perfect 4.00s Winter Quarter. It was the fourth 4.00 for Gonzalez, who is majoring in philosophy and is interested in one day becoming a Rhodes Scholar. "We are making steady improvement," said Tressel. "We just need to keep it going. We have 45 players with a 3.00 accum. That's good, but we can do better." The Buckeyes also had seven players graduate at the end of Winter Quarter, including Doug Datish, who returns in 2006 for his final season of eligibility. The other graduates are R.J. Coleman, Ryan Hamby, Lydell Ross, Anthony Schlegel, Brandon Schnittker and Rob Sims. |

Quite a feat by Gonzo. 4-4.0's is very impressive given all the pressures on and off the field.
Also good to see Little Animal with a 4.0 I would however be interested to see who has the lower GPAs on the team. |

It's great to see our players taking studies seriously and setting themselves up for success in life regardless what the future holds.

There's just no reason to announce who did poorly in the classroom. This thread is supposed to celebrate those that did well. JT is doing a great job keeping these kids focused.

Was Gonzo's 4.00 Electronic or hand timed?
Seriously, kudo's to all these kids. Hope they know how proud they make us with what they do off the field as much as what they do on it. |

There is alot of information on the NCAA site in this link, I don't think it compares GPA though. Graduation rates and such are covered in detail.

Have we ever had a Buckeye football player as a Rhodes Scholar? |
