It would be interesting to know what happened. Not many things can get you hurt kicking a football.
Possibly he could have been hit on a punt block attempt.
I hope the best for him and his family.

Local news says it was diagnosed as a "head injury" but wouldn't go into any further detail

I think this might be more serious than just a head injury. He was infact running routes as a receiver, but the hit was nothing that is out of the ordinary. I could tell something was wrong because of the way he landed. He landed face down with one of his arms bent behind him the wrong way. He laid that way for the next half hour with absolutely no movement of the arms or legs. After about 20 minutes, Coach Tressel motioned to the stands where the band usually sits. The injured player's parent then jogged onto the field and then to midfield where the player was surrounded by at least 10 medical personnel and coaches. For the next 10 minutes I could here a E-Squad traveling to the stadium. Scary feeling...After the E-Squad left the stadium, Coach Tressel talked to all the players and then they all prayed together. All the positions went into seperate groups and prayed together again, and then everyone left the field. The team scrimmaged for about 40 minutes before this injury happened.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State punter Tyson Gentry was seriously injured during a scrimmage on Friday, NBC 4 reported.
Gentry, a junior backup punter and holder, was involved in a play where he was hit by two players.
Gentry, 20, was taken off the field on a backboard and was transported to The Ohio State University Medical Center, NBC 4 reported.
Coach Jim Tressel called off practice at about 3:45 p.m., about an hour early.
Gentry, from Sandusky, is listed as 6 feet 2 inches tall and 165 pounds in the Ohio State football media guide.
There was no immediate word about the extent of Gentry's injuries. An Ohio State spokesman said Tressel was visiting with Gentry on Friday evening.
