I love pittman, but he does not belong anywhere near #2 heading into the season. I think he could have scored more, but the fact is that Pittman rarely got into the endzone, and not once against the toughest opposing defenses (PSU & UT). Until he does that, there is no argument to place him above those that actually achieved.

With time, I think Pittman could rise as high as #4/5 on this list, and he is very underrated nationally. However, I think he still has much more to prove, despite his undeniable ability.

Above Pitt
1. Peterson - needs no explanation
2. Sutton - surrounded by "third-tier" talent, he amassed 1400 yds 6 ypc and 16 tds. OSU did not slow him down either (6.6 ypc).
3. Irons - Irons: 1293 yds 5.1 ypc 13 tds (better than pittman).
4. Slaton - 5.5 ypc 17 tds, unstoppable against a tough UGA d, as well as VT (tho no TDs).

Debatable
5. Bush - so powerful yet with enough speed to hurt the defense. 5.6 ypc and 23 tds is impressive regardless of competition (VT did not slow down his average at all).
6. Hart - Pittman has not yet matched Hart's freshman season imo. If Hart returns to 04 form, it will be a great battle between these two for bragging rights in the big ten.
7. Wolfe - Undersized, but undeniable talent. Michigan's #41 rush D was absolutely destroyed by this kid... he will not be shut down in Ohio Stadium (we will still win by 14+).
8. Russell - he'd be in the mix... but isn't he going pro due to grades?
9. Lynch - ridiculous numbers, again competition level questions.
10. Charles - (I'm getting lazy, go ask xray )

Below
11. Walker
12. Booker

as for your booker bashing, it's kinda tough to rack up huge yardage when you only get the ball just over 100 times... running behind arguably the worst OL at any "BCS superpower" with arguably the worst OC calling the plays. I'm not arguing he belongs ahead of pittman, but put it in its proper context.

The O-line excuse works but not getting the ball 100 times. If he was good enough he would have gotten more carries.

And as far as only getting 7 touchdowns, don't forget Troy Smith ran the ball a lot inside the 10 yard line and took some of them away.

True, but Pitt had a 5.5 ypc avg. which is better than Irons.

Hasn't Booker had injury problems as well?

Fine, but I have Pitt ahead of Booker until he gets a chance to prove himself.

JWins, I'd move Walker into debatable. I think I just prefer his style a little bit, but Pittman fits in very well with Buckeye Football, so I wouldn't trade the two.

789, booker is not in my top-10, therefore he should not be the focus of the debate (tho I'll answer your post below). IMO, Pittman is not the best back in the big ten (Sutton is), and it's debatable vs Hart.

Pittman is not the #2 back, and DEFINITELY is not beyond all of the other backs not named Peterson, with his struggles with finding the endzone.

so a +.4 edge in average makes up for -6 tds? Pittman didn't know what the end zone looked like until the easier portion of our schedule. Irons scored in every single SEC game except arkansas.

The OL can't block and sustain drives, and he's splitting carries with a solid senior RB. Very few backs would pick up 4.6 ypc in that horrendous offense.

I see where you're coming from... Pittman vs Walker at ND might be debatable. I do not think Walker could run out of the I.
